* You’ll recall that Gov. Pritzker gave the Democratic Party of Illinois $500,000 not long ago. I told subscribers on Monday about the first mailer (here and here). And this is their second mailer to Republicans…
As somebody noted in comments earlier, if this was mailed during the general election, the Dems would call him “100% anti-abortion” or “100% anti-choice,” not “100% pro-life.”

I have to agree with Oswego Willy.
Richard Irvin and Avery Bourne are arguing that fundamentally, Bailey and the GOP are too conservative to govern.
Irvin is making the same argument that the DGA ads are making now, that Bailey is too Conservative for Illinois, and that is a real head scratcher.
On the one hand you say DGA ads are killing you, but now you are repeating them?
Also, I am gonna trust that OW knows that of which he speaks, but I can [tell] you that in a Democratic primary, when you complain that your opponent is too liberal, the liberals turn out for them in massive numbers…just ask John Fetterman.
Finally, if Bailey is too conservative, why is Avery Bourne on the ticket?
If Bailey has any sense, he is going back to the same message “This is a battle for the heart and soul of the GOP, and it’s pretty clear that the real Richard Irvin hates conservatives.”
It’s quite the trick bag.

I do feel the comment Rich grabbed, and commented himself on the trick bag, clarified much better my rambling, and now a real time example to boot.
Bailey may have liked the help these past months, but it’ll be a different feel if he wins.

The odds of this being 1994 are pretty good. With the right pivot, a real campaign, and a **** load of money, he has a chance. Now, he probably won’t win. We’ll see how bad the political environment is come November.

How so? It’s not inaccurate. Bailey has looked for months like a happy warrior eager to take the message to all the people of Illinois. If he wins, he’ll get his day in the spotlight, as his authentic self.

Instead of the genius of it helping in a primary, the compounding of the negative won’t let Bailey try to reintroduce himself to indies and moderates as an option for governor.
The feel is Bailey will “feel” he’s behind and climbing a hill constantly.

Darren Bailey isn’t going to pivot. It’s what makes him appealing. The traits that work well in the primary will doom Bailey in the general. But we can see how the party has faired state wide even with so-called “moderate” candidates. It doesn’t portend well for Bailey. But I think he’s ok with that. Owning the libs is in and of itself its own victory.

The thing is obviously GOP primary voters have some core values and issues they want their candidates to stand up for. Otherwise, they’d all vote for the Democrats to get more power and influence in the majority.

You know how there is the saying that if you are explaining then you’re losing?
Well I would add to that if you are whining then you aren’t winning.
What is Irvin’s campaign message right now other than whining about JB Pritzker engaging in political activity that does not benefit Richard Irvin’s campaign?
Was there any other message communicated at today’s press conference?
Why is a GOP primary voter supposed to care that some random guy they never heard of six months ago is being outmaneuvered politically by JB Pritzker, and moreso, how does that lend to a GOP primary voter wanting to choose that person to face JB in a general election?

He will, at very least, start out far behind. That’s why JB wants to face him, why Griffin found him to be an unacceptable vessel.

The cult-like fascination to own the libs and not waver from what it is the cult requires…it’s why Proft is so successful (I guess?) in primaries to finding his cult followers through some of the ugliest ways humans exist.

It’s not that Bailey is too conservative, it’s that Irvin isn’t conservative enough. But then again he didn’t think he’d have to be.

Look, I get that you gotta finish the marathon. So, when you pull down your ads, you have got to have your candidates out there even more. alAnd they gotta be saying something, right?
I just don’t understand having them out there saying something so obviously doomed to fail.
As hisgirlfriday points out, they are still whining to the Refs about The Big Picture, and how unfair it is that everyone piled on the presumptive front runner.
Guess what kiddos? Who told them you were the presumptive front runner?
You did.
And who attacked JB and then Bailey and then Sullivan?
That’s right: the Irvin Bourne campaign.
And who chose to spend six months talking about Crime instead of GOP voters concerns?
Correct again.
The crazy thing is, the candidates aren’t even defending themselves, they are defending the campaign staff, and to some extent their largest donor, who has allowed JB to live rent free in his head the last four years. It’s the tail totally wagging the dog.
