Rate Delia Ramirez’s new broadcast TV ad

Script

When one of us is at the table. That’s when change happens. Like when Delia Ramirez went to the Statehouse. Delia banned politicians from becoming lobbyists. In Congress, she’ll ban shady money too. But not Gil Villegas. He is a lobbyist for big oil, private prisons and for ComEd, which was caught giving out bribes. Gil is part of the problem. We need to send one of us like Delia Ramirez to Washington. I’m Delia Ramirez. I approve this message.

  1. Ouch. A good ad for Rep. Ramirez. Look, Gil is up against, respectfully speaking, a female which he must tread lightly.

This race is going to be a nail-biter in the 3rd, but I believe Gil Villegas will pull thru.

  2. Nicely done, has a natural, authentic feel in the style and execution. It’s not as stiff and scripted-sounding as things things often are. It is squarely aimed at hispanic voters but doesn’t chase away the non-hispanic viewer. I’d give it an A.

  3. She’s a natural with a pro team.. Well done.

  4. The ad is confusing. Mentioning her opponent by name muddies the waters of the message.

  5. Very confusing imo.

  6. Rich usually advises to watch an ad without the audio, but I accidentally did the opposite this morning and heard it while shaving and thought it was pretty good. Now that I’ve watched it, I could use some better graphics. I rate it a A+ for a radio ad, and a B- for video.

  7. I am admittedly very Pro-Delia, but I think this is a solid ad. I watched it without sound and with. Without it, you get a very clear contrast - Delia bans things people don’t like; Gil makes money off those things. It’s a little more muddled with sound, but still provides a strong contrast. Solid B+

Pizza Man - why do you think Villegas will win? It’s a sincere question.

  8. @ Montrose. I like both candidates. I think that Mr. Villegas has more experience plus his campaign themes focus on crime/police and he is a vet while Rep. Ramirez has solid backing from an array of organizations. But Villegas has more years of government/elective office experience. With suburban voters, the Daily Herald endorsement may help Villegas.

Now, does her ad nail him on being a lobster? Yes, it’s quite effective. It’s really good! I would use this ad thru primary day.

Both would represent the 3rd district well. With Rep. Chuy Garcia’s backing, she may get the Dem nod.

  9. I also feel it’s effective. Gil Villegas’ connections as a corporate lobbyist to private prisons, Com Ed and big oil will not go over well in those communities. Not helpful to him.

  10. Meh. I give this a C+. It feels confusing to me.

  11. Admitted Delia fan here. I give it an A- only because I would’ve referred to Villegas as “Chicago Alderman Gil Villegas”. In my experience, just his being an Alderman should be a pretty big turnoff to suburban voters, and a not insignificant number of Chicago voters as well.

  12. She must be touching some nerves. I received a mailer today about her today from some PAC that invoked the Madigan bogeyman. They are asking me to believe that an indicted Madigan who is no longer in public office controls Ramirez. It was good for a chuckle, but do they really believe people are dumb enough to buy it?

  13. it’s an A. she reaches her voters with a clear message that does not feel forced. also makes her seem normal when in reality she’s a Squad type. Gil has to go at that. Delia would not add to what the Dems need in DC.
