*** UPDATED x1 - Jesse Sullivan connection *** New, unknown dark money outfit blasts Irvin over crime, BLM

Posted in:

* American Jobs and Growth Fund was formed in Delaware in mid-April. It apparently hasn’t yet filed for 501(c)(4) status with the IRS. It’s impossible to tell who is behind this, but have a look and maybe ask yourself who would have a lot of money to burn on a hit that they do not in any way want to be connected with

* Script

Mayor Richard Irvin promised to reduce violent crime in Aurora. But as mayor, homicides have nearly doubled. Rapes have increased. Aggravated assault increased. Even arson. And while activists burned Illinois cities, Richard Irvin told voters ‘I support Black Lives Matter strongly and passionately.’ He also said, ‘I believe this past summer was a wake-up call to America.’ It’s time Mayor Irvin had a wake-up call. Tell Mayor Irvin to do something about rising crime.

…Adding… From Natalie Edelstein at the Pritzker campaign…

We are absolutely in no way involved with that org or that ad and I am happy to unequivocally say that on the record.

…Adding… The WLS TV filing with the FCC shows the request for ad time was made by Armada Strategies, which has worked for Republican candidates and organizations in 2020 and in 2018.

*** UPDATE *** If you click here, you’ll see that the advertisement agreement form is signed by Eva Mah, who’s with Axiom Strategies. As we’ve already discussed, that firm does work for Jesse Sullivan’s campaign and earlier this year it created an independent expenditure committee in Illinois to oppose Richard Irvin. The firm has a history of consulting for both candidates and their allied super PACs.

So, why would Sullivan want to hide his involvement? Well, Sullivan has pledged to run a “positive-focused campaign.” This way, he can kinda sorta keep that promise and still benefit from a negative hit.

  1. Is June 28 here yet??? I just wanna see how this ends so can get to the next round of millions of dollars of ad spending and finger pointing. Elections aren’t fun anymore…whatsoever *sigh*

  2. This is so gross. I hope this isn’t from who I suspect it is.

  3. AMERICAN JOBS AND GROWTH FUND
    I think I have them in my 401K /S

  4. ===Mayor Irvin had a wake-up call===

    It’s so tired, the “wake up” pivot to what Far Right thinkers want, at the same time, you guessed it, abhor “woke” thinking.

    Tiring.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:20 am

  5. I wonder if they’re hoping to connect “Wake up” to the new conservative buzz word “woke”. If so, I doubt it’ll work, but you sometimes get some real lit majors making these ads.

    Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:23 am

  6. Whichever billionaire is funding this, I have one simple question: can I have $100,000?

    It’s pocket change to you, you won’t notice it’s gone. And imagine how powerful, how god-like you’ll feel randomly answering the prayer of an anonymous commenter. You’ll get that rush you’re so clearly seeking without polluting everyone’s minds. I think it’s a square deal for all involved.

  7. DGA is running some questionable peo-Bailey ads on FB masqueraded as hit pieces from Irvin.

    These don’t look masqueraded at all. Looking at the DJT operatives for this messaging.

    Comment by Calderos Hand Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:29 am

  8. Between this and the Trib’s oppo dump, Irvin isn’t having a great morning.

    Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:31 am

  9. This is how I know politics ain’t for me.

    Spending 8 digits, and counting, for a gig that is 24/7 headaches.

    The power trip can’t be worth the money and stress.

    Comment by Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:36 am

  10. The hit on flipflopping on BLM is fair. If the crime stats are accurate it’s not really a cheap shot.

    Comment by Big Dipper Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:42 am

  11. my eyes are burning. but, if you said you agree with THE GROUP Black Lives Matter, there is much to explain. the phrase, fine, the group problematic.

    Comment by Amalia Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:48 am

  12. Flyin’ Elvis -

    For the founders, they are just looking at ROE, not the actually 24/7 headache for doing the work.

    Comment by Ok Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:53 am

  13. == the phrase, fine, the group problematic. ==

    In Irvin’s defense, the two are easily conflated, and I’m not ready to conclude which one he actually meant.

    Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:54 am

  14. Sullivan is that clean-cut caring “conservative”… until he ain’t.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:59 am

  15. “THE GROUP”

    Is this some new nutter conspiracy? There are like hundreds of groups affiliated in one way or another with the movement. It’s by nature a decentralized network. What distinction is being sought here?

    Comment by SWIL_Voter Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 9:59 am

  16. === they are just looking at ROE ===

    I’m not actually sold on that. Griffin may think he’s spending less than a graduated income tax will cost him, but I’m skeptical. As for Sullivan’s funny money friends, who knows. But for Uhlein and Pritzker, this is purely recreational. Pritzker would be richer if he had left all the money he spent the last few years in his trust earning interest.

    Comment by vern Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:00 am

  17. ==Griffin may think he’s spending less than a graduated income tax will cost him, but I’m skeptical.==

    Even if he’s right, JB’s not getting a graduated income tax done, so he’s still spending more than a second term will cost him.

    Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:01 am

  18. Jesse “loves Illinois but hates our politics”… Sure, Jan. Im old enough to remember when he was just a good ol boy outsider. Can’t have it both ways, put your name on the attacks or don’t run em at all. Understand the strategy to want to keep your hands clean, but this like so many other Sullivan plays will backfire. My only question now is what he does after finishing middle of the pack.

    Comment by TriedNTrue Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:11 am

  19. @Arsenal, from jump I consistently clarified when I used the term Black Lives Matter. A simple search found the objectives of the group and they included the most left screeching about defunding and abolishing various current components of the criminal justice system. I refused to help fund a community effort which supported the group. I expect elected officials to act with even deeper scrutiny.

    Comment by Amalia Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:18 am

  20. Sullivan campaign’s primary problem isn’t that Irvin is polling #1, it’s that they’re polling #3. This ad may contribute to the dogpile on Irvin, but doesn’t move the needle for Sullivan. Seems like a waste. Would have been better to have a PAC pile on positive Sullivan pieces.

    Comment by CubsFan16 Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:19 am

  21. === but I’m skeptical===

    Campaigns are, at most, every four years. Income tax payments are every quarter.

    Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:23 am

  22. Heaven forbid Jesse Sullivan get his hands dirty. That’s what Satan would do. /s

    Comment by Juice Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:25 am

  23. @amalia

    If you standard is that he should be more careful to specify which one he’s talking about, then I guess that’s fair enough.

    Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:42 am

  24. === every quarter ===

    For sure, I was thinking more along the lines of what Arsenal said. Griffin can declare mission accomplished on the income tax. Obviously it’s hard for us mere mortals to divine the intentions of the pantheon, but there’s lots of evidence that Griffin’s 2022 crusade is pretty personal against Pritzker.

    Comment by vern Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:42 am

  25. =Sullivan has pledged to run a “positive-focused campaign.”=

    If Sullivan is behind this, I am not sure why he wouldn’t want his name on it because he has already gone negative. The godly christian has been attacking schools and public education with lies about CRT and prayer. Saying what I would really like to say about sullivan would get me banned. He has already been negative, just with a shiny smile.

    Comment by JS Mill Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:50 am

  26. Seems like there is another episode of “Ask Avery”needed.

    This morning’s question comes from Anne & Madeline.
    Dear Avery: Is there still time for you and CommandoIves form a write-in or invoke the 25th Amendment to get these zanies off the stage? Why are we stuck with this train wreck from the BillionaireMen. Even St. Sullie has imploded.

    Avery sez let me check my winter coat pockets to see what is possible.

    Comment by Annonin' Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:53 am

  27. - Annonin’ -

    It will be interesting how Bourne, if this goes south in the primary or general, sees her own missed opportunities by staying in the statehouse (either chamber so it seems) and her invisibility so far, like most of not all “running mates”

    If they make it thru, abortion will likely be where Bourne is “hurting not helping” too?

    Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 10:59 am

  28. Just as an observation?

    As Sullivan goes after Irvin and Irvin goes after Bailey and Bailey goes after Irvin and Irvin goes after Sullivan…

    … if anything?

    If anything, Pritzker’s Crew must be more than pleased, almost ecstatic… so much time and ads spent tearing down and no real *coordinated* effort to rally behind “we need to defeat Pritzker”.

    The disarray, in-fighting, even the DGA incursions, not much noise against Pritzker seeping thru.

    Pritzker folks gotta be pleased, in an overall.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 11:24 am

  29. =The disarray, in-fighting, even the DGA incursions, not much noise against Pritzker seeping thru.=

    Completely agree. And as noted above, how does this “help” Sullivan? To the extent that it convinces someone not to vote for Irvin, there are plenty of other choices. And if those votes get diluted amongst the field it actually benefits the guy being attacked here.

    Comment by Pundent Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 11:45 am

  30. The Irvin campaign has spent a lot of money against Sullivan so he is only returning the favor.

    Comment by Real Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 11:57 am

  31. Sully, don’t you know it’s a sin to tell a lie? Better watch out for some smiting the next time you’re doing an ad in church.

  32. OW — I’ve found it interesting that the GOP candidates are not deploying their LTG candidates in a meaningful way

    Comment by Soccermom Wednesday, Jun 1, 22 @ 4:43 pm

  33. === I’ve found it interesting that the GOP candidates are not deploying their LTG candidates in a meaningful way===

    Agreed.

    It’s as though the 6 running mates aren’t “seen and not heard”, these 6 are not seen, not heard, only Bailey’s running mate has gotten to talk on the Tee-Vee, and Bourne, easily the most qualified and seasoned of the LG candidates on the GOP side, it seems Bourne is not only silenced but sidelined to making any argument for Irvin in a very public way.

    It’s a head scratcher.
