  1. The IL BIPA law is turning out to be an amazing piece of legislation, unique in the whole country.

It’s what gave us those checks from facebook, and now it looks like snapchat is next in line for a large payout to residents of Illinois.

  2. lets be honest, darren bailey is a circus side show. he isn’t serious. he cannot win simply with downstate republican votes. he will need votes from moderate suburban republicans, and they will never vote for him. this race is irvin’s to lose.

Comment by former cubs fan Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:01 am

  3. the husband kept saying that Rabine reminded him of one of the Kids in the Hall.

  4. I seldom watch local news on Chicago stations, but was sitting in a restaurant last night and- holy cow- the number of ads for all kinds of candidates floored me.

The sound on the tv was off, but the visuals were screaming, so to speak. Irvin had pro-Irvin ads and was also featured in the anti-Irvin ads, which were hard to distinguish from one another.

And I think Sullivan has an ad with he and his wife sitting in a church? Not sure that will be an overall positive for him.

  5. ==lets be honest, darren bailey is a circus side show.==

Yes, but it’s not like any of the other Republican candidates are actually serious men.

  6. What former cub said x2

Comment by NorthsideNoMore Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:11 am

  7. Yes, Darren Bailey is a circus side show, but - remember - many of us thought that about The Former Guy in 2015 and 2016, as well, and we all know what happened there.

Comment by Osborne Smith III Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:18 am

  8. I know Rich will have a post to the debates, so all I will say here, besides good morning and remind that never let things not be said to loved ones… I don’t think anyone of the 6 in two debates separated themselves for the overall group.

I don’t think anyone “won” no one really lost…

“They all… are who we thought they were”

    Be well, all

  9. == the husband kept saying that Rabine reminded him of one of the Kids in the Hall. ==

Is that the today older versions or the original younger versions (both funny btw)

  10. ==I don’t think anyone of the 6 in two debates separated themselves for the overall group.==

And even if they did on the stage, no one was paying attention.

  11. The primaries cannot be over soon enough. Evening network TV is one ad after another, full of lies with GOP candidates vying for who can skew hardest to the right. I’m thankful for the mute button on the remote control.

Comment by Manchester Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:27 am

  12. What is Bailey afraid of? He pulled his ads showing him joyfully unloading an assault rifle. Is he no longer proud of his NRA support? I wonder why?

Comment by Terry Salad Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:31 am

  13. Mrs G’Kar and I travelled to Ohio yesterday for a short, mid-week vacation. We stopped at a Casey’s in Indiana for gas. They had a sign up urging people to apply for a job with a starting rate of $10 per hour. The Casey’s in my little town in Central Illinois also has that sign up, but the starting rate is $13 per hour.

    Comment by G'Kar Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:44 am

  14. “joyfully unloading an assault rifle”

Thinking the exact thing. Walk it like you talk it, big boy.

    Comment by Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:45 am

  15. @Manchester: Between not being a network TV watcher myself, and using effective adblock tools on places like YouTube, I’m thankfully spared all the political ads. I highly recommend it.

As it is, the place I get most annoyed with the political ads is here on CapFax, but at least I can just scroll past those posts without clicking.

  16. Rich, can we get a round-up of statements about the TX shooting from IL electeds, candidates, and organizations?

Comment by The Real Downstate Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:46 am

  17. Today could be huge for the hellhole, with the expected casino vote in the City Council. Pay off some people in the gaming board after that, and we’re bleeping golden. Drop contributions in some campaign accounts, as a sincere gesture of gratitude. That’s lots of jobs and revenue for police and firefighter pensions, and tourism business.

Would be surprised if Bailey didn’t refer to Chicago as a hellhole. It’s what so many on the right think of the city, not just in Illinois but all over the country.

  18. === I don’t think anyone “won” no one really lost… ===

When that happens, that means the frontrunner in a political debate won.

Last night Republican gubernatorial debates, Richard Irvin won.

We need a 1-on-1 live televised debate between Bailey and Irvin.

Comment by John Lopez Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:48 am

  19. -many of us thought that about The Former Guy in 2015 and 2016, as well, and we all know what happened there.-

I do know. He lost Illinois by 17 points.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:50 am

  20. == He lost Illinois by 17 points. ==

But, not the race that mattered. That was my point.

Comment by Osborne Smith III Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:51 am

  21. “I know Rich will have a post to the debates”

Unless a debate participant commits a clear verbal gaffe, that can be easily encapsulated in a phrase or two, I’m not sure a majority of primary voters will be swayed by one debate, or even hear of it.

Comment by Downstate Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:54 am

  22. -That was my point.-

And my point is that here, Illinois is all that matters.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 9:57 am

  23. Interesting story in the Tribune…Sports pages, Sullivan…. about the Marquee Network telling reporters on a show about the Cubs what NOT to say. Wow.

  25. =I do know. He lost Illinois by 17 points.=

And yet loyalty and gaining his approval still dictates much of the agenda of the GOP. It’s not that Darren Bailey doesn’t appeal to moderate GOP voters, it’s that moderate voters don’t appeal to the GOP.

  26. TheInvisibleMan - it isn’t just Facebook that is paying out big bucks. I already have checks from Shutterfly and Octopharma, still waiting for my checks from Tinder, Instagram, and Ray-ban. There is also a case involving strip clubs that scanned patrons finger-prints.

Undecided is leading the pack, the candidates aren’t even breaking 25% consistently.

Your *want* isn’t what is happening, or who is or isn’t leading.

It is great. It’s one of the few reboots lately that might actually be as good as the original.

  29. ==What is Bailey afraid of? He pulled his ads showing him joyfully unloading an assault rifle.==He is probably working on a new ad to explain the reason why we have school shootings is because too few schools have guns in the classroom like they do at Full Armor. He and Mary Miller seem to think that keeping guns out of the hands of people who have made violent threats or shown signs of dangerous insanity is an affront to freedom.

I just cried when I saw the news from Texas that another 19 little souls were sacrificed on the altar of the Second Amendment. I can’t help but think what a sad, sorry, sin-filled, and selfish society we live in when our Illinois state Senator and US Representative campaign in opposition to common sense gun laws that would save the lives of schoolchildren or people shopping at a supermarket while still allowing sane, law-abiding citizens to have guns.

  30. Holy Moly….Tribbies discovered and reported a ComEd honcho saying (and FBI admitting) that acitivities with others did not involve passing or killing bills.
Stay tuned for stories reporting ComEd lobbos have hired “subs” since the 80s and maybe why a sealed Chicago FBI affadavit was made available in SPI…it is like a series

Wage levels have usually been lower in Indiana then Illinois. Not in all cases but in most cases. The cost of living might influence wage offers as well.

Their minimum wage is lower than ours.

  33. Arroyo supposed to get sentenced today. Hope he gets actual time in jail. Sad end to an even sadder legislative career. Good riddance.

Comment by Helm Wednesday, May 25, 22 @ 1:28 pm

  34. Watching/listening to the candidates in the WGN debate gave me a headache. There was a lot of nothing said in such a short time. It was disjointed on the part of the candidates and Irvin was not spared a bit even if he wasn’t there. Sullivan’s remarks about public schools indoctrination was discouraging to this retired educator. And the definitions given by the candidates for CRT showed that they do not understand the concept but spout what they heard others on the Right have said.
