  2. I feel like this ad is yelling at me. What a mess.

  3. It ended so abruptly.

  4. Needs a lot less Oliver Stone.

  5. All I really heard was Anna Velencia over and over; the ad is really bad.

Comment by Huh? Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 11:56 am

  6. Wowza. What a mess. I have no idea what she did or why they are yelling about it. F is my grade.

  7. Projecting your greatest weakness onto your opponent doesn’t always work. But Valencia obviously has her own ethical challenges and the ad effectively highlights that. I’d give it no more than a B however given Alexi’s own issues. Sadly this race seems to be one where it will come down to a choice between two very flawed and compromised candidates. Ethics become a wash here. The ILGOP should be happy either way.

  8. Genuinely, I’m confused because where was the ending message going “I’m [candidate’s name] and I’m running because they last thing we need is more corruption in Springfield” or something.

  9. In the place of an effective political advertisement, they’ve substituted the Hollywood notion of an effective political advertisement.

Wouldn’t be out of place in a Marvel movie, but I can’t imagine that it will be effective in real life — or even the Illinois equivalent of real life.

    IMHO, YMMV, etc.

  10. C. The message could be effective - at least it is relevant to the race unlike Valencia’s - but it’s just too much. I counted like 9 quotes or blurbs from news reports on essentially the same topic. It’s overload. Half that number could have made the same point and allowed the viewer to comprehend it better.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 12:10 pm

  11. I guess C because it tosses all up on the wall. but it’s too much to be really good.

Comment by Amalia Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 12:12 pm

  12. It goes so fast it’s hard to keep up with the headlines that I assume I am suppose to focus on. I’d give it a D.

Comment by Fayette County Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 12:12 pm

  13. C what office is MaryAnn running for?

Comment by Rabid Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 12:19 pm

  14. Awful. I had to shut it off halfway through. I hate being yelled at.

Comment by JoanP Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 12:25 pm

  15. Missing the closing and any mention of Alexi as the alternative, so, a C+.

Comment by Give Us Barabbas Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 12:28 pm

  16. The kind of ad that literally screams:
You can pee now and you won’t miss anything.

    Comment by A Guy Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 12:48 pm

  17. I rate the ad as “A Republican will be the next SOS.”

Comment by JP Altgeld Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 1:06 pm

  18. this is the best they can do with all that money?

Comment by Shytown Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 1:24 pm

  19. I agree that it’s too busy, but don’t think it’s bad.

They’re obviously trying to create the sense that news of her ethical breaches just keeps coming, like some kind of freight train. (I particularly like the cut where she waves to the camera.) Again, it’s a bit much, but I think it works.

  20. Very Proft-ish mish mash. An important genre that should not be lost.

    Comment by ANNON'IN Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 3:02 pm

  21. Especially strong, without sound. The message that comes across, even with the sound, is that I have some questions about her that I need answered. (As an added bonus, the next video in the cue was an amazing Taylor Swift video.)

  22. At least I’m not seeing him on a basketball court again…

Comment by NIU Grad Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 3:39 pm

  23. Glad to see this, from Alexi, as his opponent is facing very serious ethical issues. Happy it is factual as opposed to what we saw from Valencia yesterday. I will have a very hard time supporting someone with her questionable ethics practices and the untruths we heard in her debt commercial. Congrats to Pro Choice Alexi for earning the Personal PAC endorsement.

  24. Will resonate with many.

Comment by JDuc Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 3:58 pm

  25. I thought it was effective. It says a lot that through that mess of noise and words, two words stood out…Valencia and corrupt.

Comment by Tood Aloo Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 4:14 pm

  26. Raises Hand… I thought we were going for ice cream?

Comment by Bruce( no not him) Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 4:20 pm

  27. D - total wasted opportunity. She stepped in it and gave him a ton to work with. Instead his team just blew it. If I didn’t know what this was about, I still wouldn’t.

Comment by New Day Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 6:19 pm

  28. The ad is memorable. I’ll say that for it. It’s different from any other ad currently out there. It is an introduction ad about a candidate few may know much about. Despite who she’s running against (ugh) I have to give it an A for what it is trying to do. Using the media cacophony is both intentional and effective.

Comment by Responsa Wednesday, May 18, 22 @ 6:49 pm

  29. D plus…an ad for those with attention deficit disorder.

All I can say is Alexi is pot calling a kettle black.

I’ll cut Anna some slack and give her my vote.

    I’m gonna miss Jessie.

  30. pretty standard fair. the only thing the ad tells me is that anna must pose a real threat. *shrug*
