Tonight, the U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Rachelle L. Crowe to serve as United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) released the following statement on her confirmation:
“We are pleased that the Senate has confirmed Rachelle Crowe to serve as U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Illinois. After seven years without a confirmed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District, Ms. Crowe has the qualifications, integrity, and judgment to serve with distinction.”
Ms. Crowe’s biography from the White House is included below:
Rachelle L. Crowe: United States Attorney Nominee for the Southern District of Illinois
Rachelle L. Crowe has served as the State Senator for Illinois’s 56th District since 2019. From 2006 to 2018, she served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office in the Violent Crimes, General Felony and Juvenile Abuse units. She was previously an associate at three law firms: Carmody MacDonald P.C. from 2004 to 2006, Riezman Berger from 2002 to 2004, and Hoagland, Fitzgerald, Smith & Praintis from 2000 to 2002. Ms. Crowe received her J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2000 and her B.A. from the University of Missouri in St. Louis in 1996.
No word yet on when she will resign her Senate seat. The GOP has targeted the district. Subscribers know a bit more.

I’ll be curious who the they appointment. The Madco Democrats Party seems almost non-existent after the lost the County Board & most offices. Even with a divided GOP Party they can’t mount a fight. A real lack of leadership. It’s not even like any of the GOP office holders are stellar candidates.

The late Democratic Sen. Bill Haine’s son, Tom Haine, would be a good choice for the GOP. He’s a Republican and currently serves as Madison County state’s attorney, and has top-notch credentials (including military service). But I’m kinda doubtful that he’d want to leave that post so soon — he was elected in 2020.

Tom Haine already seems to be a target of the Trump part of the party aka the Madison County Conservative Caucus led by Dwight Kay. One thing they didn’t like was that he hired an assistant SA who advocated for ending cash bail.

Congrats to Sen. Crowe. She’s been a fantastic State Senator and I have no doubt that she will excel as the USA.

Highland, I recall when fellow Dems tried to give grief to Bill Haine, when he was state’s attorney, for hiring an assistant state’s attorney who was GOP but a pretty talented prosecutor. “I needed a gunslinger,” Haine said. And that was the end of that. Haine knew how to keep the party folks and the apparatchik in line.

The GOP has a strong candidate for that race: County Board Member Erica Conway Harriss. Everyone expected her to run against Katie Stuart, but the Dems drew Harriss’ neighborhood out of that district (by just a few feet).
