  1. He added, “Nothing that has been reported on in the last couple of days is unethical or illegal.” And instead of questioning the donations, people “really should be talking about an exceptionally qualified Black woman who can make history.”

  2. I got a wildfire advisory from the NWS this morning. I will forward it to a friend in Denver once I think she’s up. I’m sure she’ll laugh and laugh.

  4. I’ve been laughing all weekend at the new stealing valor ad from Sullivan. He seems to be running to convince people he was a soldier instead of actually running for governor. Would have been cheaper to just enlist.

  5. I hope people outside of Chicago enjoyed the eclipse last night. I had a lovely view of clouds.

  6. I know a grass fire when it’s dry (not like now) can burn fast, what do those small rural towns do that have volunteer fire departments when the fire is too big for them? Is there a state agency that has helicopters that can drop fire dampners?

  8. I went to the beach and saw the eclipse for about two minutes. The clouds were moving faster over there.

Not sure what they do downstate, but where I come from they keep calling near-by fire departments until they have enough manpower and equipment.

  10. Grandal was a bad decision. weak at the dish just like last season. Both Sox Catchers combined BA is barely over .300

  11. Actually saw a guy in a full suit when I caught the train this morning (he took the local before my express), can’t think of the last time I have seen a dude in suit and tie on Metra, pre-covid for sure.

We looked at the suspects on HeyJackass. Seems to be one demographic that is overly represented.

  14. Springfield coaching legend and member of America’s Greatest Generation Arlyn Lober has passed.

The Presidential Library WWII Oral Histories of Coach Lober his wife retired Lawyer Maureen Macy Lober are very good.

  15. several outs made aside, I’m convinced that Judge is a cyborg. he is enormous, that face looks robot like and that homer he hit on Thursday may still be flying out. the Yankees scare me.

  16. Cermak

Down (40 miles from STL) here much like the other commenter said they call on mutual aid until they get enough trucks and bodies. If the situation warrants they’ll also ask farmers to make a fire line w a Tractor disk etc.

  17. Just checking in because I haven’t dropped in much recently. Grateful for the cooler weather. Got half the lawn done; hope to finish the rest this afternoon.

Mrs RNUG and I got the latest booster but wondering how much good it will actually do.

Managed to see the moon at full eclipse last night for a few minutes.

  18. Thanks guys, I was curious. I grew up in Mattoon and I don’t ever remember a fire the city couldn’t handle, but it had maybe 3 fire stations at the time with a hook and ladder and 3 or more other fire vehicles. But Mattoon is a town of 14K (almost 20K back then). Neoga or Toledo are much smaller communities that wouldn’t have that firepower. Then you get down to tiny communities like Humboldt or Jewett.
The tractor makes sense to create firebreaks.

  19. Good to see you back here RNUG. My wife and I got the second booster too. Neither of us had any reaction to the first three shots but ouch, this one hit us us both down for a day or two. I was wondering if others had that same experience.

  20. Happy Monday indeed. This weather is awesome, and we waited what seemed like an eternity for it.

Comment by Mister Ed Monday, May 16, 22 @ 2:04 pm

  21. - Lurker- both of us had almost zero reaction to the first three, just a bit of soreness at the injection site, and, maybe, a touch of fatigue. We had zero from the fourth shot.

Don’t know if it makes a difference, but all our’s were Moderna which is, from all I could read both here in the US and overseas, maybe slightly more effective with a touch less side effects.
