For years, it’s been consistent: no matter who was in charge, state government continued to waste your money, racking up billions in unpaid bills and spending a fortune on interest that could have been used to improve schools or fix roads.
When I took office, I said those days were over. Now, we pay bills on time.
We’re eliminating the backlog, and last year alone saved $262 million.
Because it’s your money, and it’s time Springfield respected it.

The truth in this ad makes defending republicans hard as there are very few that are fiscally responsible anymore.

Solid A, no question on the connect and truth, incumbents run on accomplishments, this is undeniable.
The shredding of money makes “cash” look… frivolous… when saving dollars is the message. No sound kinda makes the confusion more apparent, so no “A” from me… but…

Strong because of our improved financial situation and paying of bills. How much more irresponsibility can we taxpayers take? Tax tax tax, spend spend spend, debt debt debt. Ugh.
A little weaker because Rauner purposely blew up the bill backlog and starved the state budget, which is not “politicians of both parties.”

Short, poignant, relevant to citizenry. It also does not attack people (other than past leadership in both parties. I give it a A/B (90%). It would be better if it included a statement of what the debt was when he came to office, and what it is now, so citizens could see how much has been paid down.

B-. It’s a little low energy for a high concept ad? But another message playing on Republican turf will probably do him a lot of good.

Eh, Blago, Quinn, and MJM sure helped over the years. Plus, that’s a message that people will like. Even our own Lucky Pierre constantly whines that Pritzker doesn’t blame past Dems enough.

I say a solid A. Straight forward. Focuses on one stat that makes his point about fiscal responsibility. And, while it would be great if the graduated income tax came through, it not going through helps him make a commercial like this right now.

Liked the use of citizen actors better than these kinds of “look at me” ads.

The topic is worth an ad but I believe the shredding metaphor misses the mark. Things are shredded because they are no longer valuable or useful. Taxpayer dollars really do not fall into that category for most people regardless of how the dollars may have been spent or saved. Gotta go with a C on this one.

For sure. Not saying we’re suffering from a shortage of people to blame. Just saying that it’s good politics to mention that both parties contributed to this mess, and it has the benefit of being true.

Pretty decent for an early season ad. Controlling the framing around the budgetary stuff early makes sense.

I’ll give it an A.
A lot of these ads definitely seem aimed at suburban voters who probably aren’t used to voting for Democrats down-ballot. Definitely leaning in on the fiscal responsibility angle.
