Libertarian Jesse White running to succeed Jesse White

Posted in:

* One of those stories that I was going to post and then completely forgot about. Argh! But this might harm Democrats in November if the SoS election is a really close race. Here’s Andrew Adams at the State Journal-Register

The Libertarian Party of Illinois, a party with eight elected officials across Illinois, is running a candidate for secretary of state.

His name is Jesse White.

If that rings a bell, it’s the same name as current Secretary of State Jesse White, a Democrat. […]

Why are the Libertarians putting forward a candidate with the same name as the current secretary of state?

“Total coincidence,” said Steve Suess, the chair of the Libertarian Party of Illinois.

Sure, Steve. Just a massive coinkydink.

  1. The political spirit of Madigan lives on. He was nothing if not a great teacher of strategy.

  2. Do they just need one candidate to hit a specific %, in a single statewide race to qualify as a ‘party’?

I would put my money on them hitting that % this time.

  3. Along the lines of some of the outgoing 50th Senate District voters probably confusing Sam McCann with Sam Cahnman (the former Springfield alderman with a sordid personal history) when McCann was first moved into the 50th.

  4. From the article: “we’re gonna get accusations that we’re trying to defraud voters…”

Ya think? Not being able to, you know, actually produce the candidate might be a tipoff.

  5. I wonder if this could hurt the GOP too? I mean, obviously just having a Libertarian on the ballot takes away some conservative votes from the GOP. But there were obviously a significant amount of independents and Republicans voting for White in general elections. If we assume that some Ds will vote for this White assuming he’s the incumbent, one could argue that just as many Rs might do the same.

  7. My tinfoil theory is this is why Lori Lightfoot is Mayor of Chicago.

That election occurred shortly after Sen. Kimberly LightFORD spearheaded the minimum wage increase. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of voters saw the name Lightfood on the ballot, thought it was Lightford, and voted based on that.

    lol

    She won every ward. C’mon.

Yeah, I had the same thought.

Here in McHenry County, the Libertarians are established political party at county-level.

Maybe in 2022, they’ll become statewide established by hitting at least 5% statewide?

Remember that staffer who worked in Republican Gov administrations in the 90s named Mike Madigan? Always thought he should have run against Madigan.

  27. ==Remember that staffer who worked in Republican Gov administrations in the 90s named Mike Madigan?==

IIRC the GOP’s Mike Madigan was part of the Madigan family from Lincoln and Logan County. Which had a long career in local, state, and federal politics too. Including Edward R. Madigan’s service as Bush 41’s Secretary of Agriculture.

    Did I suggest otherwise?

  39. No, not really. Maybe the comment above about confusion over the last name of the Chicago mayor.

My experience has been never underestimate the lack of knowledge and general confusion. I have a lot of good stories from 6 months of door to door.

The best ones are when they start really blasting your opponent when they really are talking about you, but think he is you and you are him. Good prep for learning how to walk a fine line. Lol!!

  40. When we think of catering, the first thing that pops into the minds of
many people is food. However, catering isn’t just about food.
It includes every detail of the event. From the food you
serve up to the very last aspect of the decoration All of them are part of a catering service.

There are a variety of reasons why parties and other
social gatherings are held occasionally. Private parties and intimate gatherings
are celebrated during the holidays of Christmas,
New Year, graduation and birthdays. However, there are
those who choose to open these events to their friends, co-workers
as well as acquaintances. When this happens, catering services are now demanded.
Absolutely, you can’t simply make the arrangements on your own and with the assistance
of a professional catering service, you’ll have a
blast at any party.Catering services are believed to be some of the most successful commercial opportunities in the present since the services
are highly sought after. For business or personal events catering is essential in making everybody present happy.
