  2. Eastern Bloc Trumpism maneuvering…
gonna get ugly for the GOP in the next few months; curious to see where the weight of a Trump endorsement sways voters toward or away from his blessing.

  3. (Potentially Unpopular?) Opinion:

Watching Rodney Davis torch his “moderate” reputation in a bid to stave off Mary Miller from the far right will be 2022’s ‘just desserts’ for his cowardice in standing up against the far right–particularly since last January 6th.

I realize that he will likely beat her and still win the general, due to overall demographics and trends, but I still look forward to him being forced to own up to his lack of a spine.

  5. Lots of talk about a big shake up coming at the tollway. With it being a election year not sure JB wants the constant chaos to continue much longer.

  6. I,for one, am glad that the Mary Miller Mystery has finally come to an end. So instead of being represented by an active member of the Sedition Caucus, I will likely be represented by a passive supporter with the same agenda.

  7. Not IL related, but I am shocked that there is still no verdict in the Theranos/Elizabeth Holmes trial after a week of deliberations

  8. For the “it’s just a bill” files…

You reported last year that Rep. Harper’s family owns some land in Pembroke Township, and she was one of the primary opponents of the bill to bring natural gas to those residents (https://capitolfax.com/2021/08/30/pembroke-natural-gas-service-bill-signed-by-pritzker/).

Well, looks like she filed a bill that would take eminent domain off the table for that project. Doing so would obviously increase costs and reward landowners who hold out for above-market prices. It’s bad policy that I hope isn’t going anywhere, but if her family is in a position to personally profit from it, just filing the bill should raise a lot of eyebrows.

  9. IDOT must have taken a page from Indiana last week. There wasn’t a plow to be seen until after the snow stopped.

  10. As of this moment, there is no updated guidance from CDC/ISBE/IDPH on quarantining for students/staff. Many people will be under the impression that the revised 5 days applies; it doesn’t.

Once again, this puts undue burden upon educational leadership.

  11. Great weekend for the Bulls, with DeRozan hitting back to back game winning three’s. Hoping this is the year of the Sox.

Comment by Grandson of Man Monday, Jan 3, 22 @ 9:07 am

  12. ===Doing so would obviously increase costs===

The gas company is using public right-of-ways, so they’re saying no eminent domain is needed.

  13. With Cap Fax and Illinois Politico off for the holidays, I also decided not to read national political stuff either. Had a very relaxing holiday season. Obviously back to Cap Fax, but just might stay away from the national scene. It would make Dry January a lot easier.

  14. Weird. Well, there are other provisions of the bill that would certainly hold up the project, like this one:

the Department shall notify every household of all past and pending complaints, legal claims, and regulatory actions concerning public safety, health, and environment and pertaining to any individual and business entity entering into any agreement or bidding on any contract for the design, construction, installation, or operation of any natural gas pipeline pursuant to this Act, no later than 45 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 102nd General Assembly.

Don’t think I’ve seen a provision like that before.

  15. I would like to know your thoughts on the recent carjacking in Chicagoland, Kimberly Lightford, along with judge Anna Loftus. And maybe ask around about Eric Mckennie allegedly firing at “victims”.

  16. How did everyone do after that snow on New Years Day?

    Comment by Levois J Monday, Jan 3, 22 @ 9:48 am

  17. I didn’t get an opportunity to thank my fellow commenters for their kind words about my contribution to the comment section of this blog. So, thank you. I hope I am able to live up to the praise.

  18. January is always such a disappointment, this year perhaps more than most. Just gotta tough it out…

Comment by Friendly Bob Adams Monday, Jan 3, 22 @ 10:00 am

  19. Ah, January 3rd. Sun shining, Bears won, no 9 inches of snow from the storm, and Rich and Oscar are back.

  20. What would happen to Nagy, Pace and Co if the Bears actually upset the Vikings next Sunday and complete a miracle 3-game winning streak. And finish 7-10 instead of the 3-14 that back in October I said that I expected them to be by next Monday.

  21. The chances that after this year, the late June primary date can stay permanent. Even in presidential years. And then in odd-numbered years move Local Elections to that date rather than all over the board in early April.

Plus I would like to see a push for all large states (CA, NY, TX, PA, IL, etc.) to wait until late June to hold their presidential primaries.

  24. Yay (banned punctuation). I missed you nerds. I had to fret about Covid without daily updates from Rich.

  25. Will be interesting to see what happens with quarantine durations for k-12 schools. The Archdiocese of a Chicago quickly adopted the CDCs revised 5 day guideline, but IDPH and ISBE are directing schools to continue to follow the 10 day guidance. Get out the popcorn if ISBE wants to take on the arch instead of some one off private schools.
