  1. COVID, hypocrisy, Bailey, social media, crazy people.

These are all bothering me. I am tired of being publicly attacked for doing my job. Looking forward to the day when I can publicly return fire.

  2. Mary Miller may get all the negative press from the MSM but Rodney Davis will not be outwingnutted.

    This week:
-Despite previously certifying Biden as president, Davis shows he’s all in on the GOP bid to whitewash the Jan. 6 insurrection with his remarks on the Meadows contempt resolution
-Despite previous public comments this summer encouraging vaccination when he was flirting with the governor’s race, he’s now a cosponsor of legislation to block the military from mandating vaccinations
-Went on Newsmax to solemnly pledge if the GOP retakes the House then Newsmax will be added to the House TV cable system.

  3. GOP state wide election candidates (other than Gov race)
Other than Dan Brady, where are all the other GOP candidates? Is the party just going to get no-names or will anyone run a solid campaign albeit with little chance of success?
To quote Al Czevik,” Let’s go while we’re young”

  4. Who will buy the houses?

When we were last back in Iowa, I noted that some houses were coming up for sale from estates. Some probably from people who died naturally but probably also some from COVID victims. You don’t lose 1 in 100 older citizens without leaving some property behind.

The property in suburbs, suburban fringe, urban areas should move pretty quickly. But what about the property in small towns? These areas were already suffering with an aging population and permanent outmigration of their next generation.

Also with 1 in 100 senior citizens dying I would have expected to see more property up for sale (granted in many cases the family will keep in other cases they were already in congregate facilities and had already sold the property.) How long does escrow take? And as we have often noted first the cases go up, then the hospitals fill up, then the morgues fill, what about the probate courts? Do they get clogged next?

It is November 10, 2022. Rumors swirl that Tom Demmer is just about to announce his campaign for statewide office.

  7. There will be no “slate” unless the GOP “slate” decides as a group they need the cult and the cult leader to push them to a 41% statewide total against Dem candidates who will more than welcome a slate of the Trumpkin cult.

A good SoS nominee, and a solid Treasurer nominee, two away from the noise and stain of Trump… yeah, they can make some noise.

You get Bailey at the top of the ticket, some conspiracy theorists maybe for Senate, a Catalina Lauf as a nominee… those things help no one, locally or statewide.

So… a slate… if they want to tank terribly, sure.

And check the date I put on there, too, lol

  9. Congressman Quigley, Kelly and Davis were on Chi Tonight last night to talk about a gun violence hearing yesterday. Cong Davis said they determined the problem was guns. Then they quickly pivoted to the Jan. 6th hearing. As appalling as Jan. 6th was, it does not seem to resonate with the public. Violence does. And while there is no simple solution, the Democratic party needs to work on some plan or I fear the losses in 2022 and beyond will be catastrophic.

  10. Bothered by the lack of anger in the Bears over being owned by their chief rival, the Packers. Could see players/coaches/owners of the past blowing up publicly over it. Someone needs to put a stop to this humiliation. But the Bears’ problems start with ownership and its inability or refusal to hire the right people.

  11. - cermak_rd - Having been there / done that a couple of times, probate / settling an estate can take anywhere from a few months for an extremely well planned estate to many years. Plus there are ways to almost totally avoid probate if you properly title assets using POD, TOD, or living trusts. Mom had her estate well planned but we got hung up on one issue that took over a year to resolve; I think I closed her estate right around the 2 year mark.

As to the houses, I don’t really see a glut from covid deaths. There was / is a housing shortage in a lot of locations and I see either family members or renters grabbing up the housing.

What I do see coming about a year to year and a half from now is a flood of homes hitting the market from people who couldn’t / didn’t stay current on their mortgages and took advantage of the various firebearance programs without understanding the exit requirements re the need to make up or refi the skipped payments. This will be the result of foreclosures and bankruptcies that are just starting now. I could be wrong, but I expect a lot of people to lose their homes. On the other hand, it will be an opportunity for renters with cash to buy homes IF they aren’t all bought up by speculators and turned into rental property.

I say fire everyone on Jan. 10 (if not sooner) from Nagy all the way up to the McCaskeys. With Virginia making an announcement that she and family is selling the team.

  13. RNUG, thanks I have been curious.

I agree homes will quickly be snatched up in urban, suburban and suburban fringe locations, but property already sits vacant for a while in quite a few small towns in Iowa. All the kids moved away and don’t want to come back because there aren’t any desirable jobs in town.

And of course some of our oldsters outlived their families, thus leaving no one behind at all.

I guess I just worry for the small towns. Losing people who actually loved the town and knew its history. I don’t think they will easily be replaced.

  14. “Moms for America” is claiming Trussel as one of their own. Bailey continues to surround himself with those who planned and executed the jan 6th insurrection.

If nothing else, Oppo dumps are going to be interesting in the coming weeks.

My daughter lives in a small town. Someone bought an old 2 story house nearby for dirt cheap (like less than 20k) and turned it into a palace that would probably go for half a million if it was located in the suburbs. They still made a decent profit on it.

I think we’ve already had a good taste of what a Bailey campaign will look like. On-going stunts to garner attention, attacks on the “liberal elites” and ducking out the back door to avoid answering questions from reporters. It will be a campaign that draws a lot of attention, much of it negative, to the detriment of the entire ticket. Down ballot candidates will tire of answering questions about Bailey and the circus surrounding him. What serious candidate would want to be a part of that?

Yeah, people saying nothing is being done for crime when a whole lot is being done.

“And while there is no simple solution, the Democratic party needs to work on some plan or I fear the losses in 2022 and beyond will be catastrophic..”

What do you call Biden setting aside 350 billion from the Covid
relief bill for cities to hire more police and fight crime with other
initiatives? Also in just the 117th Congress alone, of those Democrats you watched on TV, Kelly sponsored 46 anti-crime bills, Quigley 26 and Davis 27.

  19. Not pet peeve related but SJR has just announced that Scheels, not surprisingly, has gained the naming rights for the proposed sports complex near their store on the MacArthur Extension in south Springfield.

    https://www.sj-r.com/story/news/2021/12/15/scheels-gains-naming-rights-for-new-springfield-sports-complex/8909840002/

However, regarding the artist’s image of the proposed sports complex that’s in the article. Is it just me or does it look more like a Casino than a Sports Complex building? Definitely a casino at that site would attract more tax revenue and tourists than the sports complex ever would.

  22. Another pet peeve for me over the years: NIMBYs, community opposition groups, and recalcitrant property owners that have or appear to have stopped essential Interstate and freeway expansion projects statewide that should have been built long ago.

These include Route 53 in Lake County, extension of Interstate 180 from Hennepin to Peoria (where it meets Route 6 bypass), Peoria ring road, completing 336 as a full freeway from Macomb to Peoria via Canton (and I’m not holding my breath on the “promised” US 24 improvements either), failing to finish the last 1.5 miles of the MacArthur extension in Springfield south of 72, failing to finish Interstate 39 past Bloomington down to the Salem area and I-57, US 67, and many other road building fails statewide.

  23. Since there’s no Thursday Open Thread (at least not yet), here’s another pet peeve since the news of the Jaguars’ Urban Meyer firing broke.

Since Jacksonville has shown us that it’s possible and OK to fire NFL coaches with 4 games left, then I want the Bears to hold a surprise presser this afternoon and one-up the Meyer firing by announcing that Nagy and Pace are fired immediately. Even with 4 games left, none of which seem winnable at this point.
