Our dog accidentally bit down and punctured my index finger as I was trying to pry a sharp turkey bone out of her mouth. Was in and out of our local ER (the Urgent Cares were closed on T-giving) in a blisteringly fast 90 min. Nothing broken, but ouch. And I got my Pfizer booster yesterday.

Last Tuesday the Eastern federal court in Texas again delayed the implementation of graphic warning labels on tobacco products to January 9, 2023. This is the too young judge the BAR association went thumbs down on but Trump appointed for life anyway. These warning labels significantly reduce the number of new smokers and the number of smokers who quit.

It seems to me a Governor could have the Director of Revenue issue a statement that in the name of public health no retailer licenses will be issued or renewed until such time as the tobacco companies sign contractual agreements to ship only product with the graphic labels. Is this possible or is this tied up in federal rules?

In recent weeks I’ve heard more reports of some state offices that have still yet gone back to the office in person and are still working remotely. Despite the availability of boosters (although Omicron is now looming).

I am quite convinced that a sizable percentage of AFSCME (and other state union) members who are anti-vaccination requirement are actually those who are fully vaccinated (and probably already got their booster or will do so soon), but are opposed to a mandate for fears that it will lead to the end of “work from home” and back to the office every day.

For the record, I have been back in the office in person at work about 18 months now. Immediately after stay at home orders ended. Still had to go in daily despite last winter’s surge, Delta, and now Omicron threatening.

Also I have had the booster about 2 months now.

I had a quiet Thanksgiving as family comes in closer to Christmas.

Happily, Powell’s Books in Hyde Park finally re-opened on Saturday, so I spent a good amount of time there browsing and, of course, buying.

Omicron is all the more reason why the Governor needs to go all out and push the “either be vaccinated or be fired” requirement for all state employees by the end of the year. With no testing option. And fired employees due to lack of vax should forfeit their pension promises and other bennies.
