  1. What a beautiful day. I got my booster shot yesterday along with my flu shot. It’s been 24 hours and just a sore arm. Hope everyone has a great day and can find something to smile about.

  2. Nationwide internet problems and WBBM AM was off the air for a while so I was listening briefly to WGN and WLS to see what was going on. Can certainly see why WBBM is ranked #1.

  3. Whenever any nation allows impulse, whim or hasty conjecture to usurp the place of conscious, normative, intelligent action, it is in grave danger. The sole aim of any society is to settle its problems in accordance with its highest ideals, and … in the light of the best scientific research. — Du Bois 1898

  4. The Bears are a bad team but the last two weeks it has not been because of their quarterback, which is new.

  5. Getting my booster then I’m seeing “Passing” since I’m allowed to take the whole day off to get the shot. I don’t know how close the movie follows the novel, but the beginning of the novel is set in Chicago.

  6. The NFL’s unevenly enforced taunting penalties and ubiquitous sports betting is a recipe for scandal.

  7. Almost a stunning comeback victory last night for the Bears, with a 65-yard field goal attempt that barely missed with no time on the clock.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, Nov 9, 21 @ 9:00 am

  8. It didn’t barely miss. It just looked that way from the one camera angle. It was at least 15 feet short.

  9. Grandson of Man, did I miss this, because the announcers did not say anything and I have not read it? But, the last penalty the Bears accepted was for 5 yards after the receiver caught a pass for 9 yards and went out of bounds. That is, they moved back 4 yards when clock was already stopped. Anyone else think that happened? (Full disclosure, it was late and I am old)

  10. “That is, they moved back 4 yards when clock was already stopped.” I could be they lose 4 yards but gain a down. I.e., 1st and 5 is better than 2nd and 1.

  11. After yesterday’s posts about the infrastructure bill, and stories about Dixmoor’s water “issues” / Fairmont City “lack of high speed internet” think we should, again, examine the number of local governments in Illinois. How many units of local government depend upon Sen. Durbin getting federal largess for basic infrastructure needs (such as federal $ for Springfield Township’s match to expand Dirksen to 4 lanes between Clear Lake and North Grand)?

  12. Fields deserves combat pay. what was with those non calls on hits on him? truly dangerous. he made some magnificent passes in Q4. a Pittsburgh pal was right with us Bears fans questioning the calls including the taunting call, she said everyone around her thought it was ridiculous even as it benefitted the Steelers. Bears showed some fight.

  13. Yesterday was gorgeous. Got lots of outside stuff done getting ready for winter. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be just about as nice. Goal today is to hang the few outside Christmas lights we do put up, and get the lawn mowed. We got the ground level displays down out of the garage rafters, but those won’t go out until about Thanksgiving.

  14. Yesterday I was on hold with Illinois DHS for over a half an hour or so. You know how when you’re on hold sometimes the business will play little announcements. DHS does that, but the announcements were for events taking place in 2013. I’m not really complaining because it’s a government agency and they’re on a tight budget, but I did get a good chuckle out of it.

  15. “It was at least 15 feet short.”

It looked like it hit the crossbar or was near it. The announcer said it hit the crossbar. It was pretty close.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, Nov 9, 21 @ 11:59 am

  16. Check the other camera angle. The announcer was fooled too. It never hit the crossbar.

  17. Rick Morrisey wants the Bears to fire Nagy pronto. He speaks for nearly the rest of the fans:

  18. Was in Austin, TX over the weekend, and learned from a friend who writes high school math curriculum for a publisher that Governor Abbott is promoting the pulling of 800 books out of all school libraries (including Judy Blume’s and To Kill a Mockingbird). Texas librarians are fighting back. So today I am wondering how the anti-CRT and anti-sexuality-discussion conversations will play out in our state, too–including in high school teacher-taught dual credit courses, where instructors are supposed to have the academic freedom befitting a college course. Already there are high school administrators telling at least one Illinois community college’s own dual credit teachers they may not discuss racism (even in a humanities course), and firing a community college faculty member from a dual credit course for teaching about evolution.

  21. Yes, the frontal view shows the field goal attempt was short.

  22. Took me a while but now I’m on the fire Nagy and Pace train too. If George gets them out of there now, maybe someone can run the draft who has a better sense of value. I would love to see Ted Phillips gone too but don’t see that happening soon if ever as long as the McCaskeys are in charge.

I mean, yes, that’s fine and necessary and all of that. But nothing for this franchise changes in any meaningful fashion until the McCaskeys sell
