Poll: 69 percent of Chicagoans support coronavirus vaccine mandate for city workers, 21 percent oppose

Posted in:

* I checked with the Lightfoot people and here is how the poll question was asked…

Do you support or oppose a coronavirus vaccine mandate for city workers, including first responders?

* Results…

Mayor Lightfoot's vaccine mandate for city employees is hugely popular in Chicago—69% of voters support it. The policy was developed by our city's leading public health experts and based on science. @ChicagosMayor knows it will keep our city workers and other Chicagoans safe. pic.twitter.com/cUP0bDwwLu

  1. I do think this is true, but you would never know from the press so far. I emailed our ward who is a big backer of the attempted recall of the mandate with my support of the mandate, but my guess would be he hasn’t heard from any in my camp.
    I live in a ward of many police and fire.

  4. Unfortunately, popularity does not equal constitutionality. But that never stopped a liberal democratic before, so why should it now?

  5. Kind of takes the wind out of the sails of John Catanzara’s “we’re coming after you” threat.

  6. === popularity does not equal constitutionality===

    … and yet court case after court case says mandates are legal.

  7. Start cranking out new cops. A lot of people want those juicy city jobs. Get rid of the deadenders.

    Comment by PublicServant Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 12:33 pm

  8. The people that shout the loudest gets the most attention as always. Basically every poll shows broad support for these mandates, but the quarter to a third that disagree get way more attention because the media has to always present both sides even when one side is small and rabid,

  9. === popularity does not equal constitutionality===

    Yes, and “I don’t wanna” does not equal unconstitutionality either.

  10. cityrat is spot on.

    Stop whining and get the shot.

  11. =Unfortunately, popularity does not equal constitutionality. But that never stopped a liberal democratic before, so why should it now?=

    And exactly, EXACTLY, where in the constitution does it say that vaccine mandates are unconstitutional? The courts have said otherwise for a long time, and they are the “decider” in this instance.

    Can you say constitutional? I know you can.

  12. Can someone explain how police refusing an order from their commander jives with their command structure and their expectation of compliance when giving citizens a directive?

    Because I cannot figure that one out for the life of me.

    Comment by JS Mill Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 12:47 pm

  13. =Can someone explain how police refusing an order from their commander jives with their command structure and their expectation of compliance when giving citizens a directive?=

    Same thing is happening in the Air Force right now with other branches of the military likely to follow suit. When these chains of command begin to break down it puts our entire society at risk. The idea that these authorities or elected officials are somehow lacking in legitimate authority should concern all of us.

    Comment by Pundent Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 12:57 pm

  14. And they are a loud 21% too.

    A silver lining in all this, at least the whackadoo outliers in other areas aren’t as loud.

    Nobody is showing up in groups at school board meetings threatening people over the tyranny of ghosts and goblins.

    Comment by TheInvisibleMan Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 12:59 pm

  15. Also note the question didn’t include an opt out for regular testing, which is what the formal policy includes. Had it I’m sure the response would have been much higher.

  17. Since the constitutional genius has been dunked enough, I’ll just say that polls don’t help if the media is stuck on covering the loud and violent minority.

  18. “Kind of takes the wind out of the sails of John Catanzara’s “we’re coming after you” threat.” - Pundent

    Mayor Lightfoot isn’t a Queen anymore than Catanzara is a Captain…even though He’s full of hot air…PFFFFT.

    Comment by Dotnonymous Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 1:55 pm

  19. =Mayor Lightfoot isn’t a Queen anymore than Catanzara is a Captain=

    His threat was directed towards City Council members.

    Comment by Pundent Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 2:27 pm

  20. The wards that Catanzara can level enough power to threaten alderman already have those alderman supporting him.

    Comment by James the Intolerant Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 2:38 pm

  21. only 30% of cops in Chicago are not complying with the rules. that means 70% are, I’ll take that and give Cantazara nothing.

    Comment by Amalia Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 3:09 pm

  22. ==Also note the question didn’t include an opt out for regular testing==

    It also didn’t include this question: “Should people who refuse to be vaccinated either submit to testing, or be fired?”

    Comment by NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 3:15 pm

  23. =only 30% of cops in Chicago are not complying with the rules. that means 70% are, I’ll take that and give Cantazara nothing.=

    Which is consistent with the polling of the city population as a whole. But you’d never know that by the reporting.

    Maybe the focus should be on why the minority are unwilling to do the basic things needed to put the pandemic behind us?
