He was having problems with his feed even with previous bills.
On the other hand Rep Cassidy trying to make this a totally partisan bill by always referring to the opposition as those on the other side of the aisle is interesting. Almost a dozen of her colleagues on her side of the aisle vote no.

There are a lot of Democrats that continue to support the Democratic Party that do their best to ignore their fellow Democrats that don’t believe women have rights, and in this case, specifically believe that children ought to be treated as the property of their parents.

Regardless of how I feel about this issue it’s such an unnecessary political fight to start. Dems have won a lot of races in this state with voters who are barely with them or who are simply turned off by Trump. This gives them a kick in the shins to go back to Republican Party. Just bad politics if nothing else.

In 2018 not one GOP statewide nominee was close to winning, Pritzker won by 15+ points.
73-41 in the statehouse…
Where are these “barely won”?
You think if the GOP here nominated someone who supports insurrectionists, conspiracy theorists, and racist thinkers… this vote will matter? If anything it will help against those GOP Trunpkins

Southsider, the government dictates all kinds of things parents need to do w/their children. They have to wear seat belts, go to school, and get other types of vaxes, etc.

For this reason, I don’t see how this isn’t an issue in the Governor’s race and certain legislative races. This is a simple, easy and (dare I say) common sense argument to make and the explanation for the repeal (which I happen to agree with) is long, convoluted and complicated.

I think that fight was started in Texas. Any discussion that centers around PNA inevitably puts you on a collision course with what passed in Texas.

Ball game.
The politics to this, outside what the Act is with its repeal, the argument, once it’s signed, will be “Republicans are dangerous to women’s health” in an overall or statewide races.
The political framework is to show contrast to Texas, and if the GOP wants to make this vote consequential, and honestly why wouldn’t they want that, then GOP candidates must be prepared to answer the next question… “does that mean you support a Texas-style abortion ban, or overturning Roe v Wade?”
It’s multi-layered. That’s for sure.

This bill, this repeal, allows for that discussion.
Thing is, why are GOP folks in Illinois so silent on the Texas law? You’d think they’d be cheering. Wonder why that’s not the case.

And Donald Trump won’t be running in 2022 either so we shouldn’t be hearing his name mentioned right? The Democratic party would like nothing more than to have the issues or abortion and the former President front and center in 2022. And I’m sure that the Republican party will do it’s part to oblige.

I am generally progressive on social issues, but I do disagree with this legislation.
That does not mean I view my children as property. As parents, we had a legal obligation to them that is in addition to the far more important obligation (or sense of duty born out of love) we feel as parents that did not end when they turned 18. It is the same thing my elderly parents feel for my and my siblings to this day. I recognize not all parents fell or act in this way.
I would like to think that when my children were minors, my wife and I had a good enough relationship with them that they would come to us if they were faced with this decisions. But even children with close relationships may not want to let their parents know about something like this. Some kids don’t have caring adults in their lives.
As much as I am torn in that regard, I still think parents should not be out of the process for their minor children. That may not be rationale, but I also do not view them as property and support an adult woman’s right to choose.

You need to get your facts straight. The school code does not require schools get permission to give a student and OTC medication. It is a district decision based on liability. You might not understand the difference but there is a big one.

That is a school district policy in some districts and not state law.
