Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch has announced plans for his first big Chicago fund-raiser since succeeding Mike Madigan, and though I wouldn’t expect Commonwealth Edison execs to pack the place, it does have some similarities to the kind of big-bucks events Madigan used to throw. […]
If Team Welch is imposing any new rules on who can donate, given Madigan’s involvement in the on-going Edison bribery and shake-down scandal, it isn’t saying so. Madigan has not been accused of any misconduct and denies any impropriety. Several of his key associates are under federal indictment. […]
Says a Welch spokeswoman in a statement, “Speaker Welch is excited to have a fundraiser at a new outdoor venue. He will comply with any state/local guidelines, just like every other political committee holding a fundraiser.”
I’m not quite sure why Welch should be singled out here, particularly since Senate President Harmon is the one taking the lead on the energy bill talks.
Your thoughts on any special restrictions that Welch should put on his fundraisers?

Since getting ‘face time’ will be very different with masks, he should assess a surcharge for anyone who puts a logo, slogan, or bill number on their facemask.

I’m strongly of the opinion that one does not put down their supersoaker until the other side agrees to do the same. As soon as both sides collectively agree to stop holding fundraisers, we should 100% hold them to it and publicly shame every politician that doesn’t abide by the agreement. But, I’ve always been the practical sort.
Until then it would be cool cool cool if Crain’s would do…a journalism? An actual journalism? I hear tell of a bevy of financial problems that are about to occur on the 4′th of next month as a substantial amount of dollars stop being pumped into the economy. But, an impending fiscal cliff for millions of lower income people isn’t anything to worry about for the fine professional people at Crain’s Chicago Business. I’m sure no businesses in or around Chicago will be effected. And why spend time doing actual work when you can write about pointless nonsense, amiright?
