  6. Darren Bailey had an ad playing on WGN radio this morning. Gov. Pritzker bad for the economy (with toilet flush sound effects) because he caused people to lose their jobs and move out of state. No mention of the COVID pandemic of course.

  8. Was pleasantly surprised to see Sen. Duckworth and a sizable contingent of McLean County Democrats making an appearance in the Towanda (McLean County) 4th of July parade.

That said, as to be expected in this small farming community, there were a lot more Republicans in the parade. Darren Bailey had dozens of supporters walking the parade and handing out candy and campaign literature. The scene definitely made it look like the McLean County GOP is all in for Bailey whether that is the case or not.

Here’s hoping that the Cub losing streak reaches 16 games by the All Star break.

  11. Sorry to vent, but this has been in my craw since it was posted last week before the holiday. In response to the story on the bill that was introduced to restrict the GA from voting after midnight, several responders turned to the old adage of “Mama said nothing good ever happens after Midnight.” My reply at the time was along the line of “really, is that accurate. Think deeper.”

Over the weekend I was hospitalized overnight. So, to the “Mama said” crowd, I’m supposed to believe that the doctors, nurses, techs, paramedics and associated staff at the hospital aren’t doing anything good overnight. Hmmmm, good to know. Likewise those who are baking your bread, transporting your food or needless trinkets, working at the water treatment plant so you can get up to flush your toilet overnight, etc. are doing no good. Horsehockey. I completely understand the idea behind the adage holding some validity; most mischief occurs in the wee hours. But if you think everything happening overnight is bad well then it’s possible you’re not thoughtful, don’t care or are just lazy.

Seriously, the proposed policy may be worthy or not worthy depending on your perspective, but please, please try to think a bit more deeply on public policy before citing an adage or jingoism. It’s become far too common and we all should fight against it.

  12. I am always happy when the Sox have a better season than the Wrigleyville team. But I can’t take pleasure in the total humiliation the Cubs and their fans are experiencing.

  13. I hope you’re feeling better Lt Guv.

  14. Why did LaRussa bring in Hendricks in the 8th inning to close his FIRST EVER 6 out Save?
Cuz the bullpen stinks. Make a trade Hahn! Pronto

  16. Seriously, I’m starting to think you’re a Russian bot created by despondent Cub fans looking to sow discord on the South Side. I mean, that’s the take you had after this?

  17. Hot cool dry wet enough for you?

  18. LOL Rich, I am not a Russian Bot. Born and Raised in the 10th Ward and love the SOX. Hate the fact that we have so many injuries, but GM has to deal with it and trade for replacements. As the Houston and even Tigers recent games have shown we need some help! First place in the AL Central is not that big of deal when it comes playoff time.

  19. Forgot—Hamilton’s catch was amazing especially in those crappy weather and field conditions. Smart move by Tony to put Billy in late and move Goodwin to LF

  20. I second Lt Guv. Forty years ago, I was working the midnight shift as a night admitting clerk at Children’s Memorial Hospital. The overnight staff was outstanding and dedicated to ensuring the patients were cared for. I was fortunate to have a straight 5 day shift. The nurses and respiratory therapists were not so luck.

My 7am at the 6 am o’clock bar was the same as someone’s 5pm with a day shift.

Twenty-one months, the first 9 months of my marriage were working the midnight shift. My darling wife tried to stay awake throughout the night so we could spend time together.

    It was a brutal existence.

I salute those people who are taking care of us by working through the night. Thank you for your efforts.

  21. Dotnonymous for the weather win (banned punctuation).

The idea that the Legislature should not be working at “0 dark thirty” is no slap to other jobs, the idea is to cut out the late-night/early morning shenanigans that have happened while few to none of the media or public were there to watch or sound the alarm. Perhaps if they introduced far fewer bills to begin with, and stopped waiting until the last minute to negotiate or slip items into trailer bills the important work could get done under watchful eyes.
