Trying to figure out what the weather is doing to us. One of the least enjoyable things about Illinois is the unpredictability of the weather. It’s so difficult to acclimate when it can’t decide how warm it wants to be.

Every so often I joke about giving up the practice of law, moving to Crete, and trying to produce the perfect olive oil.
Some people leave Illinois because of taxes or crime or jobs. I may be the first to leave to become a farmer on a small mountain/huge hill in a place best known as the center of the Minoan Civilization.

After reading today that we may not know who the New York Mayor is until mid-July I just want the laws to change to allow two things 1) expand the laws and options so that as many people as possible can vote, vote early (even earlier than now) and vote by mail 2) that no matter how you vote, the vote has to be in by the close of polls on election day (oversees military can be exempted).
Lets get people to vote and lets declare winners as soon as possible. The languishing counts and wait for ballots only adds fire to those who say that the elections are illegitimate.

I am not sure how much more open the voting process could be. The 2020 presidential turnout set a record. I get weary of hearing about all these people who are “disenfranchised” if you want to vote, for heaveans sake, at this point you can vote.

There were no exit polls given the cost and complexity, but Data for Progress did pretty well predicting the first round, so maybe its crosstabs are accurate.
Looks like Eric Adams pulled in about 1/3 of the electorate without a college degree, almost 1/2 of the African American vote and about 1/3 of the Hispanic / Latino vote. That’s an underrepresented demo on Twitter, but in a multi-candidate field, that’s hard to beat.

What is it with the Twitter takes? They usually seem to be directed at DSA types, but it’s weird that this time DSA notably explicitly stayed out of the NYC mayor’s race, yet the takes came anyway. Journalists spend more time there than anybody. I thought the MJM post was making fun of them

Ranked choice voting is so new that one tv talking head said that the person who finishes first the first round doesn’t eventually win. at least I think that is what he said. When Mayor DeBlasio used pizza topping to explain how the process works, I think the process has jumped the shark.

Agree with Cheryl44, I’m happy I was vaccinated as soon as I was eligible, but it’s annoying to think I’m not eligible for any of these prizes being given out to those who waited months to get vaccinated.

Because each state could choose its own election day, the voting in the 1800 presidential election between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams lasted from April to October.
We don’t need to let the impatient business models of 24-hour cable news and social media determine how our elections are conducted.

Accurate matters more than fast. Conspiracy theorizing is as old as the republic (older) and we should not be in the business of letting those unmoored from reality drive our practices.

Oh, and RCV which I’m fairly neutral on doesn’t have to take that long to count. Saint Paul and Minneapolis can get it done in less than a week. That’s a NY problem which as a state and city have some of the worst voting laws and practices in the country. Left to their own devices they’d still be using those pull lever machines.

Media seems to be running with the line that RCV is why the results will be slow, but I’m pretty sure they’re accepting ballots until like June 29th

It has to be one that is part of Greece.
We looked at the one in Illinois, but it is too close to Monee. We all have our priorities.
