  1. I’m perplexed. Would one call this a melee or a free for all? It might even cross into donnybrook. Check out the guy in the upper right with the beard. He’s having the time of his life.

  3. ===What’s eating you today?===

    What a great lead in…

This morning while having coffee, former ABC7 Chicago food critic Steve Dolinsky was promoting his pizza tour, “Pizza City, USA”… 4 pizza joints, 3 hours, tour bus and NO “tourist pizza” joins.

Didn’t know Dolinsky spoke “Chicagoan”, he talked about the love and appreciation for “tavern style” pizza and it’s significance…

Gotta get the book and go on this tour.

It’s been eating me for the last 15 minutes.

  11. People do that kind of stuff (brawl) for attention knowing that somebody will film it and they’ll get hits on social media. Look at meeeeee. Yeah, they’re probably drunk too.

We’re excited to have tickets for the upcoming Sunday Orioles game with Sox. Can’t wait to sit in the stands again after so long.

  16. Back in the day at the old ballpark, the off duty cops working security in their yellow windbreakers would have quickly ended that fight.

Comment by Facts Matter Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 9:24 am

  17. What’s eating me are bicyclists that don’t obey the law.

In the past week Springfield has had at least two bicycle / car collisions at night (S 6th frontage road, Wabash & Chatham intersection). In the reports on the first one, witnesses said the driver of the car did everything possible to try to miss the bicyclist that was in the wrong. I haven’t seen details released on the second one yet.

In that same week, while driving in my neighborhood in the middle of the day going between 25 and 30, had a group of 3 people on bicycles blow through a stop sign right in front of me so close I had to slam on the brakes to miss hitting them. This happens to me at least once or twice a week all over town.

At night it is even worse. Bicycles with no lights, often no reflectors, and the riders wearing dark non-reflective clothing while riding on streets that are not well lit. It’s almost like they have a death wish.

I’m beginning to think the State needs to impose a special operators license for bicycles. You have to have a special license for motorcycles, commercial trucks, and other heavy equipment. And require special insurance that starts cheap but escalates if you get ticketed.

Could be another source of revenue for cities and the State. /s

Seriously, either the city or the State needs to spend some of their transportation revenue to remind bicyclists they also have obey the Rules of the Road.

  18. =never at the now only 1/2 game back Wrigley=

Yeah, because drunk white tourists at chewing gum park never fight, they just urinate on the neighborhood houses.

I must say though, those are the Sox fans I don’t miss.

  19. You can’t beat fun at the old ballpark….

Comment by DuPage Dave Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 9:36 am

  20. Curious what started this fracas.

A heated conversation about the expansion of Medicaid, or Brexit?

    Comment by Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 9:45 am

  21. “expansion of Medicaid, or Brexit?” More likely a disagreement over the use of stocks, bonds and derivatives in a balanced portfolio for long-term capitol growth.

Comment by Skeptic Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 9:49 am

  22. Or perhaps it was a disagreement whether it’s “capitol growth” or “capital growth.” Or maybe it was the Oxford comma.

  27. what eats me is that people would rather film and smirk on the sidelines than intervene in fights that could be truly damaging and dangerous

  33. Props to the guy in the Illini jersey doing his best to keep folks apart. A few more folks stepping in like adults instead of gawking would have been nice, but ehh what are you gonna do?

Comment by Dee Lay Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 10:37 am

  34. “A few more folks stepping in”

When working, part of the gig was breaking up drunken stupidity.
Few times, a couple of good samaritans wound up in cuffs simply because they were in the middle of it by the time we arrived.
The question is, where the heck was stadium security?

    Comment by Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 10:44 am

  35. I’m guessing these were Cub fans dressed up as Sox fans trying to paint an ugly scene at the ballpark and discredit Sox fans.

Comment by Tommydanger Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 10:48 am

  36. Sox fans. One never sees such behavior at the friendly confines…

Comment by Chicago Cynic Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 10:51 am

  37. As a retired police officer and now working security I provide training to my company’s employees on personal safety. I tell the employees and, I follow the same advice, to not get involved in something like this. Why would I put myself at risk of injury or potential criminal and civil liability by getting involved in basically mutual combatants doing what they want to do? It was a hard transition from being the police (having the hated liability protection) and having an obligation to step in and break something like this up to stepping back and being a good witness and not being exposed to physical and financial harm. There’s no “Good Samaritan” protection for breaking up a fight.

    Just my two cents.

Comment by Retired and Still in Illinois Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 10:55 am

  38. Tommydanger is correct. I think US Rep. Mary Miller would back me up on this.

Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 11:03 am

  39. “What’s eating you today?

    Pizza!”
That’s a new take on the “Man Bites Dog” story.

Comment by Skeptic Wednesday, May 26, 21 @ 11:44 am

  40. Why, it’s fisticuffs at the old ball game. But Security should have stepped in and broken it up. Sorry, letting them fight is also a liability risk to the uninvolved patrons caught in the middle of this kerfluffle. “Defendant’s security officers did fail to keep the peace, thereby placing Plaintiff’s in harm’s way in a public venue…” Failure to act when your part of a venue’s security team can also be very expensive in the end.

You haven’t been really scared until some clown passes you in your car on a bicycle with a motor on it. No license, no safety equipment, no sense.

  43. What happened at the Rate Monday night is nothing to the wild brawl that transpired last night in South Bend between the South Bend Cubs and Fort Wayne Tincaps in High-A baseball (formerly Midwest League):
