Q: A Republican, a friend of yours on the other side of the aisle, said ‘Busy session? All we’ve done this week is resolutions. And why are we going to be in session tomorrow?’ You talked about working with the committee chairs and on the other side of the aisle. Are you doing enough work?
Majority Leader Greg Harris: Well I know I am and I know the members of the appropriation committees are. I don’t know which Republican’s texting you, but perhaps they should try an approp committee and start doing some of the real work of budgeting for the state of Illinois.
OK, the deadline for House committees to approve Senate bills is a week from today. House committees have so far moved 77 bills to the floor this week. That ain’t a huge amount, but sponsors have been busy working their bills and lining up votes and it’s a big chunk of the bills sent over by the Senate. Next week, because it’s a deadline week, we’ll see a whole lot of committee activity. And floor votes will pick up after that, with the Third Reading deadline falling on May 28th.
In other words, normal.

Well the Republicans being elected for the most part don’t do government, especially it’s nuts and bolts, very well. They’re send there to complain, act as emblems of fringe theories, and, in general, gum up the works of governing. So, being unclear on the concept is not surprising in the least.

That is sort of a serious question since I’m not sure I am enough of a cynic to really believe that’s the case, but they haven’t really showed up with any proposals.

I’m sure if committees had sent double the number of bills to the floor, the Republicans would be complaining that things are moving too quickly to properly vet legislation. The process is always a great scapegoat when you don’t have much else to show for your time in Springfield.

GOPies have been moving at breakneck space exposing “secret rooms” that have been used for the same activity for 20 years so let’s give them a break. Perhaps they should nose around and find where Durkie and Senate GOPs are doing their plannin’?
Perhaps a task for next week.

The “Party of No” talking points are getting a bit stale.

It might help if they participated with proposals that have a prayer. maybe reflect on what the last few elections and the majority of voters want to see.
