Biden’s Illinois job approval rating is 51-38 with 11 percent unsure

Posted in:

* Public Policy Polling survey of 700 Illinois registered voters taken April 28-29

Do you approve or disapprove of President Joe Biden’s job performance?

Lots of unsures. Interesting. Click here to see the xtabs. Even 10 percent of Biden voters and 8 percent of Democrats are unsure about his job performance, while 20 percent of independents, 17 percent aged 18-45 and 15 percent with a high school diploma or less are also unsure.

* The poll was conducted for Personal PAC. More questions

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Abortion should remain legal in Illinois as a private decision between a woman and her doctor, not politicians?

Most young women live in supportive and loving homes, but an Illinois law forces a small number of other young women who live in homes where there is violence and sexual assault, to tell a violent parent she needs an abortion. Do you support this law that forces young women to tell their parents they need an abortion, or do you think it should be repealed?

If your State Senator or State Representative voted to keep in place the law that forces
young women to tell their parents they need an abortion, would that make you less likely or more likely to vote for them next time, or
would it not make a difference in your vote?

It’s all in how you ask the questions and how you present them.

* For instance, here’s a poll of 600 registered Illinois voters taken Mar 7-10 by the Tarrance Group

How concerned would you say you are that the government is taking away too many rights from parents and preventing parents from raising their children in an appropriate way?

Would you say this issue is extremely, very, somewhat, or not at all important to you?

[…] Do you consider yourself to be

If a minor under age 18 is seeking an abortion, do you think the law should require her parent or guardian to be notified before the procedure?

  1. It’s amazing how much you can quietly accomplish when you aren’t chasing Twitter headlines every day.

  2. That honestly seems pretty low considering his vote total from 6 months ago and his national approval ratings. I’d imagine most of the unsure lean positive but aren’t paying enough attention to pass judgement.

  3. Kinda seems like a poll intended to keep the Republican Ultras from taking over the state party.

And/or people who voted for him even though they hate his entire career

  5. Perhaps the “unsures” may be liking what Biden has done so far re: Covid, economic relief, etc, but may be much more skeptical about his talk of reshaping America because of climate change, gun violence, white supremacy, and other progressive bogeymen.

  6. === white supremacy, and other progressive bogeymen.===

So white supremacy isn’t “a thing” for you, a worry.

    Huh.

    Good to know.

  7. == climate change, gun violence, white supremacy, and other progressive bogeymen.==

The 38% checking in from whatever reality they inhabit. Trust me, I wish I could dwell in the universe where global average temperatures aren’t hitting new nights almost every year, where the US isn’t posting 10x the gun deaths of the peers, and where there aren’t shocking racial disparities across almost all metrics of life, but hey, thems the facts. Sorry

  8. Denying === climate change, gun violence===, that’s the bread and butter of the Trumpkins.

Odds are, if you’re already denying climate change, or thinking “don’t you dare regulate my guns no more”… you ain’t a Biden “plus” in any poll.

    White supremacy?

That’s one party charge to fight, and the other party’s want to embrace… so, again, prolly not Biden “pluses” either.

  9. “…reshaping America because of climate change, gun violence, white supremacy, and other progressive bogeymen.”

This what I like about Joe Biden. But I’m a woman, so I know you don’t care what I think.

  10. Would you look at that, another set of poll results that perfecting explains why the Illinois GOP is in a super minority in both chambers.

If they ever want to be relevant in Illinois again they’re going to need to make some changes unless their long term goal is to continue to support violent overthrows of democratically elected American governments.

  11. I wonder how many “Unsures” are happy to be rid of Trump but not thrilled with the Trillions of new spending, as well as concerned about who pays, that seem to be a large chunk of the current agenda.

    Just saying.

Given the really high approval numbers for that spending, I’m guessing not many

  13. =Just saying.=

Were you concerned about trillions spent by the previous admin or the trillions in tax cuts to the wealthy?

    Didn’t think so.

The current stimulus has actually helped people and, hold on to your tinfoil hat, stimulated the economy.

    Just saying.

Comment by JS Mill Wednesday, May 5, 21 @ 10:57 am

  14. @masonborn: of course, spending and debt are only problems when democrats are in the oval office.

Comment by Steve Rogers Wednesday, May 5, 21 @ 11:04 am

  15. @ Steve Rogers

Actually I Loathed Trump’s spending, especially pilfering defense funds for a vanity project. I’m in the tiny minority who cares about debts and deficits irregardless of who gets the “Credit” for it.

I tend to think there were people who voted for Biden who were “Anyone but That (Banned word)” and may not of been on board for the general program we’re seeing. Bidens main appeal seemed more I’m not him then a grand campaign promise to change the country. I’m sure I’m wrong though.

  16. “happy to be rid of Trump but not thrilled with the Trillions of new spending”

A national poll from Monmouth has 68% supporting the infrastructure bill and 64% supporting the American Families Plan. So, I don’t think that is it.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Wednesday, May 5, 21 @ 11:28 am

  17. A “Poll” that concentrates on such a limited litmus test type of questions is not much of a Poll when it comes to measuring overall job approval rating.

And Question 3 was ridiculous as it was much of a statement as it was q question.

Comment by Unconventionalwisdom Wednesday, May 5, 21 @ 12:26 pm

  18. Easy to be unsure when you don’t know what’s happening because you are *able* to ignore the news for days or weeks at a time.

Comment by Chris Wednesday, May 5, 21 @ 12:35 pm

  19. This poll misstates that IL law forces minor girsl “to tell a violent parent” that she is going to have an abortion. That statement is false. Current IL law requires THE ABORTION CLINIC OR ABORTION PROVIDER to notify a parent, grandparent, or guardian of a minor girl 48 hours in advance of an abortion. “Notice” can even be done via registered letter. If the parent or guardian of the minor child objects, the abortion provider can still proceed with the abortion — consent is NOT required in Illinois.

Comment by LawyerMom Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 3:32 pm

  20. There is a difference in how the question is asked because the Tarrance Poll reflects current Illinois law - the clinic informs the parent. The PP poll is wrong. The mandate is on the clinic, not the young minor. Therefore these results of this poll are wrong too

Comment by Bob Gilligan Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 3:38 pm

  21. The Personal PAC poll lacks any credibility. Illinois law requires the abortion clinic to notify the family prior to a minor’s abortion, not the young girl. PP is clearly so desperate to usurp parents’ rights, embolden sexual predators, and raise abortion profits they are willing to lie about what Parental Notification of Abortion in Illinois really entails.
