The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 3,193 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 17 additional deaths.

- Cook County: 1 male 60s, 1 female 70s, 1 female 80s, 1 female 90s, 1 male 90s
- DuPage County: 1 male 60s, 1 male 70s
- Jersey County: 1 female 90s
- Lake County: 1 female 80s
- Livingston County: 1 female 60s
- Logan County: 1 male 60s
- Madison County: 1 male 50s
- McHenry County: 1 female 70s
- Peoria County: 1 male 50s, 1 male 60s
- St. Clair County: 1 male 50sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,285,398 cases, including 21,540 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 58,248 specimens for a total of 21,283,370. As of last night, 2,028 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 466 patients were in the ICU and 185 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from April 6-12, 2021 is 4.3%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from April 6-12, 2021 is 5.0%.
The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses for Illinois is 9,343,775. A total of 7,344,112 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of last midnight. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 132,979 doses. Yesterday, 100,729 doses were reported administered in Illinois. The Illinois National Guard has administered more than one million doses of COVID-19 vaccines at state-supported vaccination sites around the state.

Hospitalizations and ICU admittance are at their highest points since mid-February. And with the ever-increasing cases and positivity rates, expect that lagging indicator to rise.
Peoria County is now at a 12.9 percent average positivity rate. It’s latest daily rate was 16.5 percent. I was told by the governor’s office yesterday that the Brazilian variant is spreading through the area.

I’ve been fortunate enough to now have received two doses of Pfizer. Although I’m in Northern Illinois I can attest to very wide availability of vaccine in the Peoria area at least at Walgreens. There were many times over the last month that it was the only area in the state where they had appointments available. So the problem doesn’t appear to be enough doses but perhaps willing arms.

Peoria, Woodford and Tazwell county all trail the top counties with about 20% of the population 16-64 as fully vaccinated.
Who knows if this third surge is enough to finally get people off their rear ends and taking the jab.

No one may want additional restrictions, but it seems necessary in Region 2 based on the metrics.

My high school age daughter and I got our first shot (Pfizer)last Friday at the Walgreens in Lincoln. Fast and painless, we are doing our part for Tazewell county numbers!
Only side effect was a slightly sore arm but that side effect was likely made worse because I shot a HS football game that night “wearing” a pair of Canon 1 series cameras with heavy 400 f2.8 and 200 f2 lens while running up and down the sideline

Happy to have completed my second Pfizer shot last week but just saw it’s possible it is not effective against the South African variant which I hope stays away. In our area south of Springfield, people are acting like we are out of the pandemic so we will probably get a surge anytime soon.
