* These new cases represent a 65 percent increase over the past two weeks with approximately the same number of reported tests. We’re essentially back to where cases were three weeks ago. We’re down about 200 hospitalizations in the past three weeks, but up about 200 hospitalizations from two weeks ago. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 2,380 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 12 additional deaths.
Cook County: 1 male 60s, 1 male 80s
Dewitt County: 1 male 70s
DuPage County: 1 female 80s, 1 male 90s
Kankakee County: 1 female 70s
Lake County: 1 male 70s, 1 female 80s
LaSalle County: 1 female 70s
Morgan County: 1 male 40s
Rock Island County: 1 male 90s
Whiteside County: 1 male 70sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,218,470 cases, including 21,034 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 92,161 specimens for a total of 19,481,259. As of last night, 1,132 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 242 patients were in the ICU and 105 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from March 12-18, 2021 is 2.5%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from March 12-18, 2021 is 2.8%.
A total of doses of 5,251,055 vaccine have been delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago. In addition, approximately 414,900 doses total have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities. This brings the total Illinois doses to 5,665,955. A total of 4,510,696 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of last midnight, including 359,850 for long-term care facilities. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 102,775 doses. Yesterday, 135,525 doses were reported administered in Illinois.

I wonder if a good chunk of these new cases has resulted from Halloween in October festivities (my term for St. Patrick’s Day).
Maybe the Governor should have only announced the vaccine expansion yesterday and skipped the Phase 4B bridge part?

Two of the sizable (above 0.1% positivity in a single day) regional increases were Region 2 (which includes Bradley and ISU campuses) from 2.8% to 3.1%.
And Region 6 (including UIUC and EIU) from 2.0 to 2.2%. Both in a single day.
Plus probably all of the other March festivity shenanigans outside the universities, I’m sure.
Not good. Thankfully I’m halfway there and even after I’m fully vaccinated, I don’t think I’ll ever want to go back to pre-COVID normal again.

U.S. numbers stopped declining this week. Crossed 60,000 cases yesterday. The virus isn’t done with us. Wish I could get the shot without lying. 64 and will be competing with 16 year old’s on the 12th.

People are moving around more (a lot more), even vaccinated people will pop with the virus.
Pretty soon its about the number of people in the hospital and what the death numbers are by about April 1st.
Keep that mask on.

UI campus has been single digit cases per day for over a week. While I think the kids don’t take this seriously enough in general, they are doing a good job now.

Would be helpful if they started to include the general population vaccination % and that of the 65+ population so we can track when we get to the bridge phase.

Big difference is that we now have 1.7 million folks fully vaccinated. And the doses are being administered at a rate of over 130,000 daily. Assuming that that vax’s are 90-94 percent effective - hopefully this is just a short term spike.
