* Talk about anything you want, as long as it’s somehow about Illinois and you’re polite to each other. Thanks.

  1. The skies cleared overnight. There were deer eating in the garden this morning. And it’s Friday.

Husband was a little achy from first dose of the Covid vaccine.

Have a good day and great weekend.

  2. Congrats to whoever in the House decided to hold 7 hearings this afternoon. Pretty sure whoever did this hasn’t ever watched the NCAA Tourney and March Madness or has a clue that a lot of the world spends the first Friday of the Tourney glued to their TVs. And to make it ever better, the Illini play this afternoon.

Great planning. and congrats to the scheduling genius in the House.

  3. SJ-R is reporting that Sen. Elgie Sims was threatened by a New Berlin man with a gun while driving on the west side of Springfield. The armed man also happens to be the owner of the Kwik Wall business in Springfield:

    IIRC followed by Loyola.

  5. Working during normal business hours, on the taxpayer dime no less, oh the horror.

  6. Cornbelly Nerd, must be hard to climb down from your cross in the mornings.

  7. - Cornbilly Nerd -

During the NCAA’s March Madness, all productivity (not just in the public’s dime, ugh) is reduced very measurably.

Lemme guess, you’re the person who goes to HR about a “gambling pool being circulated” too

Lighten up, Francis, they’ll get by.

    To the post,

Getting to see the Illini and the Ramblers back to back will be a true Friday treat. Looking forward to two big wins for our in-state teams.

  8. I’m on Team Cornbilly. Sportball is overrated.

  9. === Sportball is overrated.===

After these last 12+ months, taking away someone’s joy seems an odd way to want normalcy.

As more things come back (music, sports, gatherings) cheering for something seems a good way to heal.

I’m also glad Sister Jean will be at the Loyola game. That will bring joy to many who see her cheering on the Ramblers.

    So, that’s really it.

    Happy Friday.

  10. So Andy Dalton was signed by the Bears for a 1 year, $10m contract. Mitch Trubisky was signed by the Bills for a 1 year, $2.5m contract but reportedly turned down higher offers to play for them. Bills GM says he expect Trubisky to be playing for someone else on a bigger contract afterwards. Finally, they cut Fuller and have asked Hicks to shop himself around.

    Sounds like another bad year.

  11. According to Bloomberg Illinois is #17 in percentage of vaccine supply used and is the most populous of those 17 states.
    I-L-L…

  12. I don’t want to steal your joy, Willie. I just want someone who isn’t you to know he’s not alone.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Friday, Mar 19, 21 @ 8:39 am

  13. Pace is setting the Bears up to be horrible in ‘21 which is odd for a guy fighting for his job. It’s fine with me however. It’s better to tank, get a new GM, and draft a QB high in ‘22 than be stuck in 8-9 win mediocrity.

  14. “Sounds like another bad year.”

    Yep. Saturation, too many times.
Drop to 28 and Trubisky is lucky to be on a practice squad and Dalton is a back up for half that money.

But, as long as you can get 1 billion annually for putrid Thursday night games, keep fleecing the suckers.

  15. Catching up on the news and saw that unemployment benefits are not taxable up to 10,200, retro actively to 2020. I haven’t seen anything from Illinois but does anybody know if they will accept this waiver too? If they do, I’m sure this will affect the budget projections

    Comment by snowman1961 Friday, Mar 19, 21 @ 9:12 am

  16. Cornbilly. I am one who believes the less they work, the better off we are.

  17. == I haven’t seen anything from Illinois but does anybody know if they will accept this waiver too? ==

The only Illinois statement I’ve seen on this is that IDOR is reviewing it and they recommend people it might apply to delay filing until they have a determination. Not sure if that is why IDOR extended the filing date by a month or not.

Since I’m retired, it doesn’t apply to me. I just filed and sent them a small check a couple of days ago.

    - blue dog -, I tend to agree. But being a cynic, it would be the perfect time to advance some potentially controversial bills.

Comment by RNUG Friday, Mar 19, 21 @ 9:42 am

  19. Sen. Sims - found it was interesting he thought what set off the “Ike Clanton wannabe” was not his race or talking on Bluetooth but his legislative license plates.

  20. NBC 5 is reporting that a Northbrook woman who received her second vaccine dose in late January still ended up contracting COVID-19 in early March. Six weeks after being fully vaccinated.

    https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/it-hit-me-hard-northbrook-mom-gets-covid-after-second-vaccine-dose/2465900/

Looks like COVID is here to stay even after receiving our two vaccines.

Comment by EssentialStateEmployeeFromChatham Friday, Mar 19, 21 @ 10:20 am

  21. DuPage Guy: Agreed. Bears could have been just as bad spending $7.5 M on Trubisky and put it toward retaining Kyle Fuller. Time for a front office housecleaning in Halas Hall.

  22. =Looks like COVID is here to stay even after receiving our two vaccines.=
Well when they say Pfizer and Moderna has 90% efficacy, there’s has to be a 10%.

Comment by bogey golfer Friday, Mar 19, 21 @ 10:45 am

  23. @Essentinal - The real work and efficacy of the vaccine is not to prevent you from getting COVID. It is to keep you out of hospital. A very important distinction.

    On to other things:

Glad to have high school football back

Happy to be able to watch the NCAA

Can’t wait to hear about the outcome of the Barkley

Comment by Cool Papa Bell Friday, Mar 19, 21 @ 11:54 am

  24. Cheryl44 - I get it. But when my son and husband were into it, I thought why not join them. I chose a team because I liked the name … Gonzaga. They went all the way that year and I became hooked. Now I am an adult student at Loyola and no one is permitted to talk about the Ramblers not winning… love to see the way those kids play their hearts out. Win or lose, just great to get an invitation to the dance.
