  1. I’m feeling bad about that young fella from the 13th Ward,

Comment by Frumpy White Guy Wednesday, Feb 24, 21 @ 2:39 pm

  2. Mostly good. Work is crazy so of courses I’m commenting. Both girls are accepted at their first choices for college–Smith and Cornell College (the one in Iowa). I’m trying to figure out how to pay our portion, but it appears to not be much different from the University of Minnesota.

Both parents have had both vaccine shots though Mom is now going in for a brain aneurysm. Good prognosis, but concerning and neither my sister nor I can go down to help her out.

  3. Never better. The great thaw of 2021 is underway.

Comment by SSL Wednesday, Feb 24, 21 @ 2:42 pm

  4. The thaw helps.

Comment by Keyrock Wednesday, Feb 24, 21 @ 2:47 pm

  5. The thaw is upon on us. Nothing better than being able to step outside for a break after reading bills and bills and bills and bills. Feel for LRB staff it would appear each of Illinois’ citizens have asked their lawmakers to introduce a bill just for them.

  6. No more dramatic plot twists in politics, geesh. Covid19 is and was enough. Between the national dome being raided and now MJM stepping down, then picking a B-team replacement for an A-team position, then that person not making the cut, well, I just can’t keep up with this political telaNovella.

  7. @ArchPundit -

Friends of mine have a daughter at Cornell College and she loves it. Their “one course at a time” block system really suits her.

I hope your mom comes through okay.

  8. Happy about the warming trend; I love to be outside. Looking forward to prepping the garden.

  9. It’s nice that it’s warm (relatively speaking).

The Trib apparently thinks it’s big news that Mayor Lightfoot uses the f-word.

  10. I may be one of the few sad to see the snow melting. My German Shepherd Dogs love playing in the deep stuff.

Other than that, holding up pretty well.

  11. My bones are happy to be out of the deep freeze.

Comment by Mama Wednesday, Feb 24, 21 @ 3:15 pm

  12. Happy to see the snow melt. Longing for summer. Hoping this remote work-type-situation will ebb sooner than later. I miss seeing people in person.

  13. Seeing light at the end of the tunnel, but the light is taking a long time to arrive (vaccine). Relying on good habits to feel better (exercize, eating well, work, etc). Really looking forward to traveling again, a great joy. Would like to go to Arizona sometime this fall (when it’s not so hot over there but still warm).

  14. Warm Sun on my face this morning reminded me that Planet Earth is still the most beautiful planet known to Mankind.

Comment by Dotnonymous Wednesday, Feb 24, 21 @ 3:32 pm

  15. I still don’t have a vaccine appointment. I am swamped at work. And worse, I am jonesing to go somewhere on vacation…but it would probably be unwise to fly yet. So…I’ll continue trips to Binny’s. :)

Excellent, that’s great to hear. My wife and I are alumns and I was not that Dad who pushed my kid to go to my alma mater, but I think it will work with her really well.

And thank you for the note on my Mom.

Comment by ArchPundit Wednesday, Feb 24, 21 @ 3:35 pm

  17. I feel a weight lifted with the improved weather. Worried about new strains of Covid after reading an article about how it is more severe.

Comment by Dog Lover Wednesday, Feb 24, 21 @ 3:35 pm

  18. About two weeks ago new neighbors moved into a nice house at the end of the block. Then the deep freeze and snowmageddon hit so we really have not had a chance to go over to meet them yet. This afternoon when I drove past on my way to the grocery store there were three panel trucks with ladders in their driveway and a bunch of people looking up at the roof. Uh oh. I fear for them.

  19. What a nice thread! And made me laugh some. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

  21. Feeling very hopeful. Looks like more doses of the vaccine will start being distributed. Keeping my fingers crossed that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine gets EUA approval.

I’m also itching to start traveling again and I can’t wait to see family and friends soon. The Zoom meetings have been nice, but I’ve had about enough of statements like “Uh-oh, my internet connection is unstable, so you’re all freezing up”, “what’s that weird noise in the background”; “your cat is looking really well”; and “I have a Bloody Mary; what are you drinking?”.

  22. Got the second covid shot. Found myself looking at seed packets at Rural King after checking out our garden. Had to push a hand into the dirt. Soon….

  23. Doing fine. Living as normal a life as is possible right now. Being able to get out in this sunshine today and go for a drive is really great for blowing away any cabin fever.

  24. Doing better than most, and knowing how lucky I am.

The snow melting is good for my psyche

It’s okay to ask for help…there are good people everywhere who want to help all of us…for sure.

  27. No one is sick, we’re employed and my wife has been vaccinated, so it’s really hard to complain. But the cabin fever is real. Or maybe it’s travel fever? It’s been a year today since any real travel other than renting a house in Michigan a couple of times.

The ice dams did a number on my gutters and lifted a few shingles, but I got no water inside so that’s both fortunate and a pain. And here we are

  28. Enjoyed a wonderful and much needed day out hiking about reclaimed strip mine ground shed hunting with a good friend. Nice to see sigs of spring and to have some COVID safe human interaction. Especially nice that the good friend is thoughtful, intellectual, and e have such interesting discussions about such an eclectic mix of topics.
Although I am generally fine with little interaction with people, it has gotten very lonely with my only face to face only interacting with my spouse and the librarian for the most part. Feel lucky that we have preservered through the pandemic, and stayed healthy. Wish we could get vaccines soon, but still on the local waiting list. May have to eventually travel outside of home area/county to one of state sites to get ours in a more timey fashion.

  29. At least I haven’t shoveled in a few days. Snow melt worries me with flooding (I’m low point for both ends of block and alley, so sewer overflow goes in my basement). Waiting for vaccine while wanting those more at risk to get it. Tired of Illinois, want to move to Indiana, but no way to do it yet. As my friends from ‘Joisey might ask “So Rich, how you and dat Oscar fellow doin’?” :)

  30. A retired friend I’ve known half my life- died last week- he just gave up. That has shaken me quite a bit. I’m feeling very mortal.
