  1. Week’s not over. Unfortunately.

  2. Thanks for the Oscar photo yesterday.

  3. Appropo of little, I wish the Bears could score a slew of first round draft picks like the Houston Rockets got for Hardin yesterday.

  4. Rich, agreed, thanks for the Oscar photo. That was a needed reset and reminder of a bigger picture, like our own health and sleep.

Also, thanks Rich for keeping all things in not only a perspective of timeline and context, but also the political and governmental, and where they all seem to meet, and where the rumors and speculation should end.

You make this place, yet again, *the* one stop shopping for all things Illinois. Your reach is a credit to your professionalism and the sharing of your instructional knowledge, past and current. Thank you.

Boring week… yeah, garden variety for sure.

    :)

  5. I reflexively was refreshing the blog at midnight last night wondering why there were no new posts…

  6. Let’s hope the rest of it is.

  7. The week isn’t over yet. May still be a surprise or two.

Wonder if JB will sign the criminal justice reform bill as passed or if he will make any amendatory changes to it? Seems to be a number of unhappy groups over it.

On a personal level, not looking forward to the predicted weather. Need to check on supplies but I plan to hibernate through any snow.

  8. Was very disappointed in leader Durkin’s words yesterday. Grandstanding and pontificating. Say what you will about politics in general or former Speaker Madigan; had the roles been reversed, would Madigan have done the same to him? Absolutely not.

  9. I don’t know about the rest of the state, but the weather in Chicago is about to remind us it’s January.

  10. After the General Assembly passed that prejudgment interest bill, the amount of money that will be dumped into the 2022 IL Supreme Court races in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Districts is gonna make the Kilbride retention fight look like a race for dogcatcher.

A Republican Supreme Court in 2022 looks more likely to me.

  11. Interesting how AFSCME was conspicuously silent on Welch’s election to Speaker yesterday. Despite some of the other unions (SEIU, IFT, Teamsters, Carpenters) and the AFL-CIO expressing their congrats and well-wishes.

  12. The Trib continues its downhill slide. With the most recent buyouts, it’s lost Howard Reich, Blair Kamin, and Phil Vettel. Odds are they won’t be replaced. What a pathetic excuse for a newspaper.

  13. We so deserve a brighter future. The prospect for getting Illinois a federal pandemic bailout is so much better with a new US Senate. We can use that extra $1,400 stimulus as well. The same goes for better vaccine rollout.

  14. Essential State Employee,

FWIW, AFSCME is a member of the AFL-CIO.

  15. Quiet week. Nothing to see here; move along. :)
Sports: Bears confirm they will not be contenders in 2021; retaining Pace and senior management; Nagy picks wrong week to quit drinking. Weather (Chicagoland) We’ll have winter in March and April again at this rate. Ch Tribune: Band playing “Nearer my God to Thee” as paper begins sinking below the waves, soon to be a free weekly streetcorner paper. Oscar: Who’s a good boy?/ You’re a good boy.

  16. I got up this morning and thought did I really live through yesterday? When you have spent 30 sessions working in the gvt or private sector legislative offices, the thought MJM is no longer Speaker seems surreal.

Do you remember what you were doing any time between 12:00:00PM on Jan. 11, 1995, thru 11:59:59 AM on Jan. 8, 1997?

My prediction for a possible Question of the Day either the afternoon of Jan. 3, 2022, or the next day:

Who will be the next Bears head coach?
