Listening to some Republican legislators speak during the debate of congressional objecting to the electoral votes. I felt relief and proud of this nation, in particular after hearing Rep. What MrJM said!.

I am also very hopeful of what a Democrat controlled US Legislature can accomplish. It is a slim majority and I am not expecting grand accomplishments but some steps toward improving affordability of healthcare, jobs i.e. a national industrial policy, reducing inequality i.e. redistribution, and significant infrastructure improvements.

BUT the Dems better not blow this opportunity to help the working class or else in 2 years (the next Congressional elections) or 4 years (the next President election) the next “Trump/Mitch McConnell” will be much worse.

Comment by Big Jer Thursday, Jan 7, 21 @ 2:59 pm

  21. This morning, the sun came up. The tide was on time. And the Constitution prevailed. The true winner of yesterdays events, it came out unscathed after being attack.

  27. Looking so forward to a new president and Congress, and a return to an America we have known all our lives prior to this president, one that honors the peaceful transition of power and rejects fascism and insurrection. Many of both parties stood up for our democracy and republic in the last two months. Can’t wait for our beacon to shine again in the world.

    Make a difference.

  35. An old acquaintance I hadn’t spoken to in several years stopped by my office today. He wants to contribute and help raise funds (charitable donations…not political contributions) for an initiative to help college students so he wanted to talk about how to proceed. After talking through some of those details I asked what inspired him to do this. He shared that he has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and has less than a year to live. He’s made the necessary arrangements to see that his family is provided for and come to terms with his fate but he wants to make sure he does something to help others before he’s gone. It was a very sobering reminder that there are still a lot of good people in our state, our country and our world.

  43. I found this when I googled “American experiment”:

“It has often been urged that with the increase of wealth and population our existing popular system of government would become impracticable, and that a great class would arise, of mere laborers, destitute of property, to whom the right of suffrage could not be safely entrusted. Our experience thus far does not give any countenance to this view.”
