Let me be clear. Hitler got nothing right. This reprehensible rhetoric has no place in our politics. Illinois Republicans cannot allow this to stand and must condemn this vile, evil streak in their party. If Representative Miller was the least bit interested in history, she would visit the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center to learn just how wrong Hitler really was.

“U.S. Congressperson Mary Miller (R-IL) has demonstrated an act of blatant antisemitism and disrespect to the Jewish people and all those who perished at the hands of the Nazis.
“A sitting member of Congress who uses Hitler’s obscene methods for indoctrinating children with racism and fascism as a guidepost, igniting hate and violence, has no place in Congress.

Let me if I get this right. When John Shimkus “represented” me he boldly claimed that “corporations were his best friend” and he walked out of a State of the Union address because he was “bored”. And the lady who succeeded him and who purportedly said she will also represent me is quoting Adolph Hitler. OK, I understand.

Hideous but not surprising. Trump has tapped into a deep well of this, that has been around forever. Great leaders work to tamp down the worst of us. We have to give Adam a lot of credit. It would have been easy for him just to fall in line with the far right.
Instead, he is one of few that have consistently stood up for democracy.

What’s happening today is a result of a child with no limits. It’s been worsened as smart people who knew better, decided to just follow that child’s tantrums, ignore his lies and misdeeds. Of course it has gotten worse over time, smart people have ignored the unacceptable behavior so it continued to get worse. Today - We’re evacuating buildings, and seeking to overturn the people’s vote. How is it that this is not enough for all of us?

I was a staunch Republican and even voted for Trump in 2016, hoping for change. I dismissed the first 2 years of Trump, still holding onto hope. But these last 2 years have me an avowed, and maybe even lifelong, Democrat. Never thought the words would ever come out of my mouth. However, the Republicans continue to go to great lengths to make me feel better about my decision.

I don’t think we should be surprised that a speaker at a Nazi rally quoted a Nazi. The Illinois GOP has nominated another Nazi to office, but this one won. The Illinois GOP has a Nazi problem.
I am not a fan of Representative Kinzinger and I am well aware of his culpability in contributing to the GOP’s Nazi problem. We should all recognize that as of right now, the GOP has been factionalized and that Rep Kinzinger has boldly stated which faction he is in.

What many elected officials are realizing, is that this movement was never ‘Republican’. Because so many republicans chose to surrender to it in a belief that it would yield them votes, they surrendered their party. They left you Matt. They decided the American way, under the constitution was worth sacrificing for a few votes. That’s the decision of the smart ones. You know what Rep. Kinzinger - you and republicans across this nation had a chance to put this to an end. But you lacked the courage to do the right thing and vote to impeach Trump - a man who said there was fine people on both sides of Charlottesville. That should have been enough for you. There are a lot of ways that she could have made her point but she picked the absolutely worst option. The ease that she decided to quote Hitler is disturbing.
Not only is quoting Hitler never a good idea but to say he was right about this specific quote shows a shocking lack of historical knowledge & in fact blatant ignorance. Beyond what other commentators have discussed already about his views towards youth, the history of the Hitler Youth, the indoctrination of children & using child soldiers in combat during WWII demonstrate that nobody should ever be viewing Hitler’s attitudes towards the youth in a positive light.

I would like to hear US Rep Mary Miller explain quoting Hitler to the 1.5 million children that Hitler and the Nazis murdered. He took those youth and silenced their future.
