  9. Bad look for Quigley with the restaurant issue. I suppose he did at least own up and apologize after getting caught. I have to admit though I would risk getting caught for some of Ann Sathers cinnamon rolls right about now.

  11. Also looking for a little more good reporting on that disgraceful search warrant by cpd. What judge signed it? Did the SAO review it? Did anyone verify anything in it? How many tac teams have a female officer on them? Or minorities for that matter? There’s so much room for improvement it’s amazing they remain this bad at basic police work.

my question is how the mayor expects me to believe that she was totally unaware of this situation/video/ongoing lawsuit/settlement negotiations until earlier this week. a former prosecutor who isn’t aware of what her law department is doing? come on.

At first glance it would seem messed up. But these are the guidelines established by the CDC. In an emergency situation do you want a veteran with no care or someone that has the same virus as them?

    COVID crullers?

  17. Last night Orland Park Mayor Pekau had a fundraiser at PaPa Joe’s restaurant at least 75 people in the room and not one person wore a mask. In fact I’m his speech he noted that fact. How can the Illinois Department of Health and Liquor Commission allow this behavior in Orland to continue. My neighbors walked out from there own dinner because of it. The manager told them it’s not mandatory.

  18. Bizzare timing to announce a $40K or 15% raise by CPS to its CEO Janice Jackson. The data points on being in line with other public school CEO’s makes sense but when we are in this large of a bleep storm budgetarily, high unemployment, and increased property taxes why not wait a year or two? Or do it last year?

  20. Today’s Illinois Times is hinting that Mayor Langfelder is considering another about-face on indoor dining restrictions in Springfield. This time saying he wants indoor dining back in the city by January 12. Which interestingly is the day before the 102nd GA is inaugurated:

Also a more serious story from today’s Times about the struggles of bars and restaurant owners in the Springfield area:

Director Chapa LaVia is *still* director of the agency.

    Hmm.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Dec 17, 20 @ 10:15 am

  23. Director Chapa LaVia, April, 2020…

=== Still, Chapa LaVia said, there are no known cases in any residents of any State veterans homes.

“The home is following recommendations from local health officials with implementation assistance from the Department of Public Health to continue protecting everyone there,” Chapa LaVia said. “Our facilities are prepared for COVID-19. If cases do occur, we will work with the guidance from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, our local health officials, to isolate, hospitalize residents as appropriate, and protect other residents and our staff from transmittal.”===

    States above;

===State VA official acknowledges employees with coronavirus allowed to work at LaSalle home where 33 veterans died===

Is that how Director Chapa LaVia sees being… “prepared”?

And still, Chapa LaVia is director.

  24. @Chatham Resident

Looks like region 3 is meeting all metrics to return to Tier 2 mitigations. The move should be made on January 2 as far as I’m concerned (giving grace to keeping the spread even more contained through the holidays).

IDPH and the Gov set the metrics - USE them.

Comment by Cool Papa Bell Thursday, Dec 17, 20 @ 10:20 am

  25. =Looks like region 3 is meeting all metrics to return to Tier 2 mitigations.=

From IDPH: “AND greater than 20% percent available intensive care unit (ICU) and medical/surgical bed availability (3-day rolling average) for three consecutive days,”

I don’t think Region 3 has met the ICU bed capacity threshold yet.

  26. ===State VA official acknowledges employees with coronavirus allowed to work===

We’ll get to that today, but read past the sensationalist headline. It’s CDC protocol during severe staffing shortages.

  27. What do you guys think will end up happening with the Illinois budget situation?

Comment by California Guy Thursday, Dec 17, 20 @ 10:39 am

  28. Ms. Chapa La Vie is certainly working that political science degree. Her rhetoric is full of words with no solutions.

Thirty-three veterans died on your watch. Time to resign.

  29. @peter
The fact that the Corp counsel is still the Corp counsel would suggest she knew and maybe he has proof she knew.

Comment by Rutro Thursday, Dec 17, 20 @ 10:59 am

  30. =In order for a region to move back to Tier 2 mitigations, a region must experience less than 12 percent test positivity rate for three consecutive days AND greater than 20 percent available intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital bed availability AND declining COVID hospitalizations in 7 out of the last 10 days.=

You are correct. Jumped the gun. I thought two of the three metrics needed to be met. The ICU bed metric is the sticky one. Giving it’s a trailing indicator of infections and hospitalizations.

Comment by Cool Papa Bell Thursday, Dec 17, 20 @ 11:05 am

  31. Anyone know why the Governor, at least both today and yesterday, is bumping up the time of his daily press conferences to 1:15 instead of 2:30? (They’ve been at 2:30 during the spring and again ever since cases rose in mid-October, then he went to noon on Wednesdays with a few extras on other days during the summer and early fall).

I know, Cheryl, but I’m still sort of in denial about it. It was a great place to watch 708ers rebel against their parents (from my apartment window across the street). More than anything, my remark was made just to see if there was anyone as old as me among the commentariat. (banned emoji)
