The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 8,256 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 179 additional deaths.

- Winnebago County: 1 male 60s, 1 male 70s, 1 male 80sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 812,430 cases, including 13,666 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 92,737 specimens for a total 11,367,345. As of last night, 5,284 in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 1,176 patients were in the ICU and 647 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from December 2 – December 8, 2020 is 9.6%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from December 2 – December 8, 2020 is 11.4%.

Hopefully Thanksgiving did not cause a lot of damage. Some Friends of mine still got together with family but they ate outside around fire pits. I was surprised at how many friends posted pictures of these type of get togethers on FB

Ezike and others now say that the spike in cases might not be seen for a few more days. I think they are being overly cautious. She wants to start counting forward 14 days from the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I think that’s silly.
People gathered on Thanksgiving. They may have traveled on Sunday but on a plane you have to have a mask on and transmission risk in a plane is way less than a dinner table with 10 people.
I don’t think a spike is coming. I really think that the overwhelming number of people didn’t gather in big groups and most listened to reason.
Our case rate still needs to nudge downward - but we are in a much better place now that many would have though possible four or five weeks ago.

It’s possible that we actually are in a surge, but it’s being off-set. Maybe the drop would be even steeper but-for the extra Thanksgiving interactions.
