  1. This list of counties is so long. It’s heartbreaking.

The lower numbers are very encouraging news as the data now includes 11 days post-Thanksgiving.

When I was a kid, the TV news would air the daily casualty report out of Vietnam. This feels like that. Only it’s much longer now.

  4. Rich - I was just thinking that. But felt strange about a non-wartime kid making that comparison.

I wondered today if seeing the death reports and totals was what it was like in WW II or Korea or Vietnam. It’s heavy on the soul man, especially on the days you know someone in that total. It a reminder that on the days you don’t - your lucky. But everyday it’s someone’s loved one in the aggregate.

  5. Can anyone explain the difference between case positivity and test positivity?

  6. I watched those daily death rolls hoping my brother wasn’t on the list…for the two tours he “served”.

As time passes, I’ve come to believe those who perished in Vietnam were not casualties…they were needless victims…like the people above.

Excellent post, really has me thinking about the parallels. Really sad.

Maybe we should do this every day. Maybe it will start to resonate with folks.

Doubt it, but worth a try.

  9. I don’t remember the daily casualties report from
Vietnam, but I do remember the tv footage.

I don’t mean to make light of this by my next sentence - it’s just what comes into my head when I start reading these lists. The last Harry Potter movie where the radio reporter reads the casualty list as the characters are hiking. This is very bleak, and that’s what that scene makes me feel.
These numbers ( and those country wide) are tragedies. We will realize just how many people we’ve lost for years to come.

  10. With flu season rolling in, the governor and IDPH should strongly consider lowering those psotivitiy thresholds to six percent.

new cases are trending downward, but we cannot let things creep this far out of control again this winter.

  11. The numbers don’t look to be showing a massive Thanksgiving increase yet. Lets hope it stays low.
