Democratic challenger Dave Vella has won the race for the 68th District over incumbent Republican John Cabello by just 239 votes.

Winnebago County added 2,211 votes Tuesday, while Rockford added 197 to its count on the final day votes could be counted.

The total vote count is 26,770 to 26,531 in favor of Vella. […]

We have been told by both the Winnebago County Clerk and the Rockford Board of Elections that the final count is now official.

  1. Cabello, Wehrli, and Skillicorn…

The General Assembly is making a turn for the better.

That “Magnificent Seven” is losing steam?

  4. Not bad for MJM/DPI, to have a “bad” 2020 election and lose only one net House seat. Now we await MJM’s fate as Speaker, but his party is well-set up for the next two years.

  5. I would have endorsed Cabello’s “lawmaker bodycam” idea if it meant I could watch him lose in real time.

This was ever in doubt? Seriously, ya’ll sound ridiculous.

  7. Griffin’s pick for Gov

    Skillicorn for LG

    DeVore for AG

    Cabello for SoS

    Ives for Treasurer

Maybe “Slip and Sue” for Comptroller(?)

That “dream ticket” is shaping up nicely

  8. Good riddance Cabello, Wehrli and Skillicorn. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

  9. Cabello, Skillicorn, McSweeney gone. Bailey sent across the capitol. Talk about addition by subtraction for the HGOP.

  10. Forgot about McSweeney.

Bailey in the Senate caucus will be… interesting

Durkin foiling the coup, wondering if the coup conspirators seem a bit out of sorts.

  11. Didn’t realize he was behind in the votes. Was he considered “vulnerable” or is this an upset?

  13. Madigan should get another term solely for getting rid of Cabello, Wherli, and Skillcorn.

  14. Eventually, the ILGOP will get tired of being a superminority and start letting mature adults run the show again. Until then, the show will go on! (Minus a few actors, that is.)

Comment by The Ford Lawyer Tuesday, Nov 17, 20 @ 4:16 pm

  15. The real winner this election is Durkin. He’s getting rid of McSweeney, Skillicorn, Cabello, Werhli, and Bailey. The caucus just shifted to the middle a bit (not much).

  16. The big winner here is Madigan. I would have to believe Zeke Giorgi’s grandson will be a hell yes for Madigan as Speaker.

After Maurice West’s Oct. 23 announcement that he would not vote for Madigan as Speaker, if Madigan hangs on, could West find himself remapped into Vella’s district? While West’s current district, while staying solid D, is open for a new candidate.

  19. ===Who gets so excited about losing===

    It’s a rebirth of a party, a chance to grow a party.

The foolish thinking that Cabello is the future of saving the party that’s not smart politics.

    That’s worth celebrating
