12,601 new confirmed and probable cases, 97 additional deaths, 5,887 hospitalized, 1,158 in ICU, 12.5 percent case positivity rate, 14.5 percent test positivity rate

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 12,601 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 97 additional deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 597,849 cases, including 10,875 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 94,205 specimens for a total 9,255,658. As of last night, 5,887 in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 1,158 patients were in the ICU and 545 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from November 10 – November 16, 2020 is 12.5%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from November 10 – November 16, 2020 is 14.5%.

Information is constantly being entered into an electronic system and the number of cases and deaths can change as additional information is gathered. Bad news: Another record high for Illinoisans hospitalized with COVID. (Numbers always reported as of 11:59 p.m. last night).

There are 5,887 COVID patients hospitalized in Illinois.

Of those, 1,158 are in ICU beds (getting close to that spring record).

  4. All bad news. We have a decent case load going into Thanksgiving which will create another spike just like it did in Canada.

    Were done because of JB’s failure to shut the state down. We needed at best to do it 14 days before Thanksgiving so we could have mitigated the spike.

    Each day going on that governor allows doesn’t close state is going to make Thanksgiving and then Christmas worse.

    Close the state. Nobody should be working right now unless actually essential.

  5. Dude,
    Who do you envision actually doing the work of closing the state? My county for example says they aren’t abiding the governor, won’t enforce his directives, same for the state’s attorney’s office and the police. Both my state senator and state house reps have written strongly worded letters to him saying we need to stay open.

    Unless there’s some enforcement mechanism, declaring a shutdown is a lot like Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy, and only further erodes whatever credibility remains

    Part of the reason so many people can claim they won’t follow the rules are because the govenor hasn’t taken a hard stand against them.

    The govenor has many cards he hasn’t yet played for all public sector employees who are not following the executive action. He simply isn’t as much of a leader he claims he is to play them. He is playing too nice to these morons.

  7. But what will people do if they can’t get their Amazon packages delivered if we shut down all non essentials?

    What constitutes a probable case of covid exactly? How many are confirmed vs probable? If I’ve eaten at Applebee’s in Missouri do I consider myself a probable case?

  8. Too many mayors in Region 7 refuse to enforce mitigation. This is the wrong way to be top in the state. Our hospitals should have every mayor working in the ER and COVID floors to help with the increased infection.

    Part of the reason the ignorant in your county think they can get away with not enforcing the restrictions is because of the govenors failure to lead in recent weeks.

    The govenor has a few cards that he could play that haven’t been discussed here but he is holding back thinking these ignorant people will comply.

    It isnt working. The govenor needs to use authority and step in like a leader and shut this down. It starts with his own house(state employees who are not essential) and goes from there.

    People in your county likely have no idea what’s coming if they keep acting like it isnt a big deal.

Yea I mean if he’s holding cards that can somehow reverse the trend of like half the state just completely ignoring him, he should play those cards, but he’s going to need a lot of help doing the practical part of that work, whatever it is, and I’m just not sure who those people are in the vast expanses of the state below i80

  11. Used to look at these death reports and count the number of people at and above my age group to warn me. Now I look and see that the level of death in Cook County is lower percentage wise than elsewhere, and not even close. And that pains me for the entire state of Illinois. Wear a mask, all of Illinois.

    Our local grocery stores have had a capacity limit for several months and never were in danger of exceeding it. Unless everyone shows up at once to make a run on the TP, I doubt if this will have much of an effect. The local Super Wal Mart can have 900 people in the store at 20% capacity.

    Wrong.

    Tier 2 jusr went into effect in the middle of last week, which wont start impacting test results until next week.

    What we are seeing is the Tier 1 mitigations finally starting to take effect.
