  1. I want to thank everyone who served as an election judge this past Tuesday. Anyone willing to serve during a pandemic deserves a thank you, and that is a thankless gig except this time, THANK YOU!!!!

  2. Sure am I glad put the AC cover on last week when it was winter here in Springpatch. Now that Spring is back had to pull the cover off yesterday.

  4. I almost started to mention “Indian Summer.” Then my Cherokee daughter gave me a look, stopped me mid word.

  5. Did anyone think the GOP would pick up statehouse seats?

Have to say that was the biggest Illinois surprise to me by far. After all the ads I saw for various state rep races I figured the GOP was in big trouble.

  6. =Did anyone think the GOP would pick up statehouse seats?=

I had to stop and think about that question. My honest answer is no. The reality is, I don’t think much about the ILGOP anymore unless it has to do with nuts like Darren Bailey or Jeanie Ives.

Given how few seats the ILGOP holds, it would have been hard to lose any as most are in red strongholds in mainly rural Illinois. Not all, but most.

  7. === Did anyone think the GOP would pick up statehouse seats?===

    I know I didn’t

    I thought it would be a net -3, yet it’s a net +2.

Durkin should be congratulated, and a well deserved vote of confidence as he will be Leader again come January.

Probably the biggest surprise of the night was the caucus adding seats.

She obviously understands the term’s origins. Not a pleasant time for white settlers, or the First Nation aboriginal peoples, on the new frontier

  9. Just pondering: Given Kilbride’s Illinois Supreme Court loss and his potential replacement, and the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent hard turn to the right, what is the potential for future repudiation of state pension protections? Might more conservative justices be open to revisiting contract law and constitutional protections of pensions?

  10. ===Might more conservative justices be open to revisiting contract law and constitutional protections of pensions?===

The last thing the conservative court would like to do is create a slippery slope on the obligation of contracts, one of the basic tenets of capitalism. So there’s that. I doubt the IL SC will look like the US Supreme Court any time soon, and that the US Supremes defer to state courts unless there’s a clear federal issue at hand. so there’s that, too.

  11. Jim Oberweis’ lead over Congresswoman Lauren Underwood shrunk to 716 after both Kane and DuPage counties released additional VBM ballots counted after Election night in the IL-14.

Did Oberweis claim victory too soon?

  12. I saw one of the U of I guys quoted in the Sun Times today talking about the State of Illinois creating a tax study commission to re-think how Illinois does revenue. Another commission, huh? Can someone remind me how that worked. out with the property tax commission earlier this year?

  13. Still waiting for my email from Cook County clerk that my mail-in ballot has been counted (they notify VBM voters every year). I know the Clerk’s office has it from the email they sent before the election. Wonder how many races will be affected by the VBM counts?
