  1. Rich,
I’m worried about your sleep schedule. Middle of the night postings before the election.
I’m going back to bed, I hope you get some sleep, too.

  2. Rich is OK, Keyrock. As people age they retire earlier and rise earlier.

Comment by Old Illini Wednesday, Oct 28, 20 @ 7:00 am

  3. Too early to start talking about Opening Day for baseball?

Comment by Red Ranger Wednesday, Oct 28, 20 @ 7:43 am

  4. I see the well spoken proponents of HS sports were back out in force on social media yesterday following the news the regulations on HS hoops and other sports.

I’m amazed at the truly over the top and sometimes down right stupid and hostile comments people post on social media and use their real names. When you start calling the Gov and his medical team names that no mature adult would use, you are losing your argument.

Now you have HS coaches saying they will break away from the IHSA. So what are they waiting on? Come on Ken Leonard lead the charge break away from the IHSA tough guy.

  5. I used to run into Jacobson on the bus going to work. He carried his lunch in a Jewel bag and always sat as close to a door as he could.

  6. Never too early! White Sox already have some season ticket plans on sale (my fave, the pick-em 10 plan, a few weeks away).

  7. That may be one of the funniest Twitter threads I’ve ever read.

  8. Interesting piece on NY Times the Daily on local “news” ( actually usually prepaid pieces ) referencing Jeanne Ives.

  9. Congressman Davis is running hard. Monday received two different taxpayer paid for post cards touting his record. Tuesday received another one from him bragging about his anti-abortion vote which was really about supporting the Vaping industry. Three taxpayer mailers the a week before the election. This will be interesting to see how this race turns out.

  10. I once saw Liz Phair at the petting zoo at the Winnetka Children’s Fair. She was cute and seemed like a good mom.

Met Ann Landers (or Dear Abby - cannot recall which) at Governor Thompson’s Christmas Party at the Drake. She was incredibly nice and wanted to only ask about me.

Finally, I saw Irv Kupcinet walking out of the Cape Cod Room and he complimented me on my suit.

    That’s all I’ve got

  11. I had a letter printed in Jack Mabley’s column.

Oh, and Rich Miller once replied to one of my emails.

  12. Cute Twitter thread! Really enjoyed it. Empire Carpet man ftw! (Also Jacobson and tree story made me lol.)

I would seriously love to run into Clarence Page sometime. I’ve written him a few times over the years about columns, and (most memorably to me) about his “Impolite Essays” when it came out. He always writes back and seems like a lovely, thoughtful person.

  15. Wisconsin - Nebraska game cancelled this weekend due to Badgers having COVID numbers exceeding BigTen limits. Head Coach and top 2 QB’s out.
To make it Illinois centric, why did this have to happen AFTER they kicked Illini butt?

  16. When I was at uic, I saw Richy Daley walking through the student center. What stuck me at the time was how short he was. The media image didn’t match the reality.
