  4. The Governor just needs to say today, “The heck with the regional stats and a few days notice. Let’s all go back to Phase 3 statewide effective immediately. While Region 1 stays with the Phase 2-style mitigations.”

Why? The Governor and his experts have a plan in place based on science. Along with contract tracing I think they have a good idea what is taking place. That doesn’t mean we wont be back in phase three but there is no way to abandon a good plan.

  6. Everyday Chatham Resident begs the Governor to shut down the entire state. Hey CR if you’re so afraid why not just lock yourself in your house and never leave? Quit trying to make the rest of us suffer all because you live in fear.

  7. New from Columbia University

“This report looks at the staggering and disproportionate nature of COVID-19 fatalities in the United States, which now ranks first in the world in the total number of fatalities, to estimate how many deaths were “avoidable.” With more than 217,0001,2 lives lost, and a proportional mortality rate twice
that of neighboring Canada and more than fifty times that of Japan — a country with a much older
population than the U.S. – the United States has turned a global crisis into a devastating tragedy.
Through comparative analysis and applying proportional mortality rates, we estimate that at
least 130,000 deaths and perhaps as many as 210,000 could have been avoided with
earlier policy interventions and more robust federal coordination and leadership. ”

  10. One of the most distasteful phrases of 2020 is “if you are afraid”

Comment by Winderweezle Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 2:08 pm

  11. == One of the most distasteful phrases of 2020 is “if you are afraid” ==

I’ll admit that I *am* afraid.

I’m afraid I might infect someone who isn’t healthy enough to fight off COVID-19 by my irresponsibility.

Afraid I might infect people I love because I wasn’t willing to give up convenience in the short term.

I readily acknowledge that I’m fortunate enough to be able to work from home during the pandemic, and that not everyone is so lucky. So I work to limit my own exposure and not be part of the reason someone else gets infected.

But if people want to call me afraid, sure, go ahead. I’m afraid of the things I listed above. I’m sorry that they lack the compassion to feel the same for someone else.
