This poll was conducted by We Ask America between September 27th and 29th, 2020 using a blend of automated calls to landlines and live-operator calls to cell phones. In all, 800 interviews were achieved among registered voters in Illinois. 400 of these responses came from cell phones. The margin of error for this survey is +/- 3.46% at a Confidence Interval of 95%.
Registered voters were surveyed.

Standby for a well thought out fact centered rationale response from football coaches and their leader, Ken the Public Health Expert Leonard.
That is if he can find time after teaching classes on Public Health, Infectious Disease and History of the Holocaust.

It’s reassuring to know so many value public health and don’t reflect the small and loud “reopen now” crowd. We have a governor who agrees with many of us, thankfully. It’s cliche to bring up the last governor but hard to avoid. He would have reopened the state early, just like his fellow party members did in Florida, Texas and Georgia. Infections exploded when that happened.
As has been said many times, to improve the economy we have to better control the virus.

Very helpful to see polls like this. It helps keep the “noise” in perspective. It also underscores what has been said for quite sometime now. We’ll routine to normal when people feel safe, not just because Covidiots demand it.

I don’t have a landline and any call to my cell not in my contacts goes straight to voicemail. I doubt I’m a rare outlier with that setup. Between that and the 31% who answered they were not working/retired before COVID makes me wonder if this is a true representative sample of Illinois residents.

Angry parents with selfish intentions (and the other side, advocating for a child is a parent’s job, not judging those parent’s heart or intent, even as those infections are by definition… selfish) are a terribly small group when looking at the polling here to safety and science to a whole state, and the selfish thought of safety and science to one’s own health.
Super-spreader events rarely only cause infection to those attending, and the 62% may see those events dangerous to them, even when they don’t attend… “because life interaction“

… and yet property taxes, children or no children, fund schools that have extra curricular activities… like football… which can infect ANYONE… in a 100% way.

As high school basketball season approaches, the push to play will be coming from folks north of I-80. I have a feeling the rules may change by then. We’ll see.

So what? Sometimes when schools send a survey, or anyone else for that matter, people form the misperception that it is a vote or plebiscite and we should go with what the “voters” want.
It isn’t and we shouldn’t, we make school decisions on what the experts at running schools believe is best. I know Ken Leonard doesn’t let the parents decide who starts or what defence to run.
I am glad to see so many people following science though.

So?
They all pay property taxes, either directly or through rent. And public education benefits everyone, not just those who are currently in school. Also, public means public, which means all of us.
In other words, deal with it.

If they don’t play sports ALL will be lost.
If they do play sports just a FEW lives will be lost.

Fountain Central across the Illiana border (Veedersburg) has stopped all sports this week. Ends the season for volleyball and the football team will not play its last regular season game. Too many problems I see moving forward if we did do this in IL.

When you see the number of professional and college teams that have run into issues with infections, and you consider how much better placed they are to control for it than are high schools, you have to wonder what that 31% is thinking.
