  1. Seems like an interesting combo of classic Chicago machine politics and Big Jim styled patronage, simmered down to trying to bend and even break the rules, but leave doubt about their criminality.

  2. It is what it is…as it always was…and ever will be…?

  3. Mike Madigan is a very nice man who is always being picked on and treated unfairly. Give the man a break.

  4. I don’t have an issue with patronage so long as the people hired are qualified for their positions.

  5. ===so long as the people hired===

    The hiring may be no big deal. The problem is firing them. Often can’t be done.

  7. The Tribune, and even specific to Ray Long, incredible work to the details and the long story, Madigan and his ways.

    While I’ll skip Statehouse Chick’s Editorial Page, it’s the Ray Longs of the Tribune that deserve the credit to call the Tribune a newspaper.

    Take the time. Read.
