The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 2,166 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 25 additional confirmed deaths.
• Bond County: 1 male 70s
• Champaign County: 1 female 80s
• Christian County: 1 female 70s, 1 female 80s
• Cook County: 1 female 40s, 1 female 80s, 1 male 80s, 1 female 100+
• Crawford County: 1 male 70s
• DuPage County: 2 female 70s
• Fayette County: 1 female 70s
• Franklin County: 1 male 70s
• Jersey County: 1 male 80s
• Kendall County: 1 male 90s
• Lake County: 1 female 50s, 1 male 60s
• Madison County: 1 male 90s
• McHenry County: 1 male 40s
• McLean County: 1 female 70s
• St. Clair County: 1 female 70s
• Tazewell County: 2 female 80s
• Williamson County: 1 female 80s
• Winnebago County: 1 male 70sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 295,440 cases, including 8,696 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from September 24 – September 30 is 3.5%. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 65,615 specimens for a total of 5,690,437. As of last night, 1,635 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 359 patients were in the ICU and 149 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting separately both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.
*All data are provisional and will change. In order to rapidly report COVID-19 information to the public, data are being reported in real-time. Information is constantly being entered into an electronic system and the number of cases and deaths can change as additional information is gathered. Information for a death previously reported has changed, therefore, today’s numbers have been adjusted. The concerning new comments that I keep hearing from younger folks: “I’m so tired of this stuff, at this point, I don’t care if I get it. The only people who get sick are really old, or already have a bad disease. I’m not scared of getting it.” To which I typically reply, “Are you scared of getting it and then spreading it to your parents, or grandparents? Are you scared of getting it and spreading it to your aunt who has diabetes, your uncle who has high blood pressure, or your cousin who has asthma?” In rural areas like mine, it’s getting really hard to fight the good fight. Some people are asking our mayor why he’s not taking action against the bars and restaurants that continue to operate as usual, indoors. His response is that the mayor is not a dictator who can, on his own, shut down bars and restaurants. I had to point out to him that, as the city’s de factor liquor commissioner, he does have the ability — in fact, the duty — to suspend/revoke licenses or even close places when state rules and regulations on hygiene and disease are not followed. The mayor’s response is that the courts haven’t decided that issue, and the city doesn’t want to be a target of a lawsuit from a certain lawyer.

I wish the younger folks to be shown the 2020 season of Yoan Moncada - budding superstar, fun-loving guy, new father, gets COVID, now constantly tired, struggling.

Southern. Your mayor probably understands the financial situation many of these small businesses are faced with. Many,I am told, can’t weather much more of this. Put yourself in their shoes.

For better or worse, I think the nation is coalescing into a Sweden-like posture of enough measures to put a lid on it, and a numb acceptance of a plateau of about 40k new cases and 750 deaths a day until a cure can be found.

Well said by Six Degrees of Separation. Unfortunately, the issue is becoming extremely divisive as it threatens the old, but isn’t much of a threat to the young. The very very few examples (such as posted by Anon221) are so rare as to be statistically insignificant.
