The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,466 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 20 additional confirmed deaths.
Christian County: 1 male 90s
Cook County: 1 male 60s, 1 female 70s, 1 male 70s, 1 female 80s, 1 female 90s
DuPage County: 1 female 80s
Jasper County: 1 male 70s
Jersey County: 1 female 90s
Kane County: 1 female 80s
Kankakee County: 1 male 70s
Macon County: 1 male 80s
Madison County: 1 male 70s
Ogle County: 1 female 70s
Peoria County: 1 female 60s, 1 female 70s, 1 male 90s
Randolph County: 1 male 80s
Rock Island County: 1 female 80s
Stark County: 1 female 80sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 264,210 cases, including 8,332 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from September 8 – September 14 is 3.6%. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 39,031 specimens for a total of 4,810,827. As of last night, 1,584 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 373 patients were in the ICU and 144 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting separately both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.
*All data are provisional and will change. In order to rapidly report COVID-19 information to the public, data are being reported in real-time. Information is constantly being entered into an electronic system and the number of cases and deaths can change as additional information is gathered. Region 5 (southern IL including Carbondale) jumped from 6.0% to 7.0% in just one day.
Good to see Region 2 (Quad Cities/Peoria/Bloomington) continuing to retreat downward, this time to 6.3%, after flirting dangerously close to 8% (actually 7.7%) on September 2.
Region 3 (Quincy/Springfield) is now at 4.9% after hovering in the 6’s a month ago. Is UIS also getting some of those rapid virus tests for their students that UIUC created last month?

FYI - Pleasant Plains school board is considering a special session to vote on bringing ALL students back for full-time face-to-face classes. What could go wrong?

I’m guessing this won’t be posted since it goes against the grain, but you can tell this is run by liberals. We need to let our kids be kids and have a life again.
Pritzker has his own agenda and flies by the seat of his pants with whatever benefits him that day.

@ Out - Gotta tell you I want our district to get back to in person education. The virtual stuff isn’t working. Teacher told my son and his class after she gets 50 unread emails she just deletes the ones after.
Class isn’t class. Its worksheets and story time. I might not be down for 100% attendance everyday. But give me 50/50 for two days a week.

@ the unpopular opinion - liberals want their kids to have a life again and go back to school, same as you. But if we ignore the virus and just do what we want, people will die. Wearing a mask is uncomfortable, kids stuck at home is a real problem and layoffs and unemployment is a tragedy, the only reason to do it is to prevent people from dying. There are real victims in this situation, but they are in the morgue or on ventilators, not message boards.

@the unpopular opinion - I think you are sadly mistaken if you truly think Governor Pritzker is making these decision just to fit his agenda. What I read from the areas that are under stricter guidelines it’s people like Tom DeVore and rogue business owner who have an agenda against the Governor who is trying to keep people out of the hospitals and funeral homes. I’m sure these decisions aren’t made easily and the Governor puts life before politics.

I have heard from kids that they find learning at home way more stressful.
And there is the case of Sweden. Why can they not lock down, and still have about the same results as we do?

Aren’t they, arguably, the worst country in handling the pandemic, in obvious parallel to doing nothing about it.

UIS tests their students weekly using the same test as UIUC. In fact, UIUC processes UIS’ tests. I read recently that UIS will be creating their own lab to process their students’ tests very soon.

They focused on isolating the most susceptible.
AND their results are the same as ours, with less disruption, and all the bad things that came with that disruption.
If the result is the same, why not arrive there with less impact?
Lots of mental health issues and suicides with lockdowns. Not a trivial cost.

Why not mirror Canada? Why would that be bad?

Yes they are. But we are half Canada’s death per case ratio. Sweden is less than Canada too but not close to us.
So, what’s really better?
On one measure we are the same as Sweden, by other better, but Canada is much worse than us.

Comparing Canada to Sweden is wholly disingenuous.
Saying they are “same” but Sweden is a better choice is dangerous to medical knowledge we have now.

In contrast, here in the US we have COVID positive college kids that were told to quarantine hosting parties on campus.

To follow up on UIS COVID testing, according to their dashboard, they’ve done 6,538 tests, and a 7 day positive rate of 0.21%
