Pat Brady, former chair of the Illinois Republican Party and former member of the Republican National Committee, announced today that he has endorsed Rep. Sean Casten in his re-election campaign against Jeanne Ives.
In addition to his endorsement of Rep. Casten, Brady is featured in multiple digital ads for the campaign. The ads are part of a six-figure digital buy that will run through Election Day on Facebook, Hulu, and Google.

Pat Brady released the following statement:
“Jeanne Ives showed us her true colors in her unsuccessful campaign for governor when she ran the most sexist, racist, and hate-filled ad I’ve ever seen. That anger, bigotry, and lack of judgment doesn’t belong in the United States Congress. And most importantly, it doesn’t represent the people of the 6th congressional district.
“Sean Casten is a good man, a family man, and a businessman, who cares deeply about the district and all who live in it. As a Republican, I might not agree with him all the time. But I know he will always do what he believes is best for us, and for the country.”
Rep. Sean Casten released the following statement:
“I believe that public officials should always lead with their values. Jeanne Ives has made it clear that her values don’t represent the 6th District, and Pat Brady has made it clear that her values don’t represent the Republican Party. I am honored to receive his endorsement.”

Identifying and labeling Pat Brady as a Republican is false and misleading. If you spend all your time attacking and betraying Republicans - whether out of newfound convictions or to continue booking TV appearances - you are a Democrat. Pat Brady is a liberal Democrat and has been for some time. Sean Casten may have the backing of political hacks but Jeanne Ives is supported by hard working taxpayers.

US House candidate (IL-06) Jeanne Ives released her first campaign ad of the 2020 election, Step Up, this morning to introduce herself to suburban voters.
In the ad, Ives, a West Point graduate, mother of five and former state legislator, illustrates her record of stepping up through the imagery of the different shoes Ives has worn in service to her country, community and family: jump boots at West Point and in the Army, running shoes as a coach, and high heels as a legislator.
Ives concludes the ad by emphasizing her record of independent leadership, saying, “When you need me, I always step up.”

The first Brady ad doesn’t do much for me, but the second does.
In ads like this I think it would be better to stay away from real issues. “I’m a Republican and Ives is bad for IL” would have been better. The more specifics in that one, the more reason for people on the fence to ignore it.
The secoond one, positive about Casten, was very good.
Now we just have to wait for the next Kass column praising Ives and talking about Brady is part of the combine. It is predictable but oddly entertaining.

Regardless of her footwear, Jeanne Ives entire political career has been about stepping on the people she sees as less than.
D.C. already has more than enough people driven by their hate and contempt for people who are different from them — the last thing we need is to add another.

To the post,
Good on Pat Brady, even as it helps his own brand by calling out the racist tactics… and divisive tactics that define Jeanne Ives.
There will be a reckoning that will be coming come January 2021;
The Raunerites, the Raunerites that embraced Trump, the regionalists, they will need to decide if admitting Rauner was wrong and they were wrong in hurting Illinois is worth the short term pain to build a long term party, or will old, angry, white, regional anger and angst finally swamp it all and embracing those things to save their own seats is worth giving up a statewide presence and a statewide feel of a party living all of Illinois.
What Pat Brady *is* doing, to his credit, is laying a marker, saying the Ives ways shouldn’t be in governing, and those politics shouldn’t be embraced by Illinois.
The GOP needs a rebirth.
It starts with marginalizing Ives, Oberweis, the Eastern Bloc, and look to build where the thought of GOP here in Illinois isn’t synonymous with Rauner, Trump, anger, or a lack of diversity in people or thought.
Brady has his reasons, besides honesty here to Ives, and I’m with Brady here.
If we want two parties that can govern Illinois, rejecting Ives right now is a really good start towards redemption

Raunerites need to come to terms with the damage they caused, some personally, others by votes in the GA, and build trust with voters again that when another Rauner (or Trump) comes again, they will reject the agendas designed to hurt Illinois
I have receipts if Raunerites are confused.
Still, again, Brady is doing good here, his own benefit is the residual

I appreciate Jeanne Ives’s political career because her yard signs let me know which of my neighbors believe I should be exterminated when the herrenvolk are given the go ahead to start the pogroms. What internal misery she must live in, going through life with seemingly no greater purpose beyond stirring hatred between Americans.

Jeanne Ives served a purpose; expose that Rauner had no base and to keep Rauner from trying to build a base after the primary.
Heck, I thank her for that. Ives did such a good job at hurting Rauner, Bruce asked 4 people to replace him.
Brady is still a Raunerite, it depends who is paying the freight. Think Proft, but in a mirror.

Some people are very angry and they have to resort to calling names. Calling Ives a bigot and supporting a progressive income tax are excellent reasons to join Illinois’ Democratic party. It’s never too late to come out of the closet.

Ives has bigoted views.
It’s not up for discussion or debate, she ran a whole ad against Rauner that played in her bigoted views
What alternative universe has the views of Jeanne Ives not bigoted.
I get it. Realizing it’s not good supporting a candidate with bigoted views so you can pretend it’s about guns is real for you, but you’re supporting a candidate that has bigoted views, and has run on bigoted views. That’s who you support.
Embrace it.

For those following the 6th district race Ives is all up in arms because someone has been writing a naughty word on some of her signs. She has been blaming Casten for this without any proof. You would think she would make some snide remark and move on. She has been bellyaching about it for about a week.

Raunerites are upset, LOL
Bruce Rauner signed HB40, Diana Rauner was a top five donor to the Raunerites, while self-identifying as a Democrat.
The RaunerS appointed Schneider, for the love of Pete.
This is projection, so they can pretend that supporting Ives and her bigoted thoughts is acceptable.
And folks wonder why I keep hoping these guys get rid of the Raunerites to get the GOP back… here’s a great example.

Jeanne is way out there. Like scary out there.
I can’t believe the number of signs she has on peoples lawns though. Two years ago there were a lot of Casten signs. I don’t think she can win, but I’m not as confident it will be a blowout as I once was.

And you think YOU are? If Ives represents the pulse or the mainstream of the GOP, you have MUCH bigger problems than who the pulse is or isn’t.
Too many people share the same views as people like Ives, a scared, fearful, bigoted (by the way, the word is neither masculine or feminine). So called “patriots” like her either can’t read or do not care what the constitution really states and just want to go back to an era that never existed except maybe on TV.
The good news is more and more people are standing in opposition to these ideas.

Well as is often said on this site, signs don’t vote. I have no doubt that Ives has her rabid supporters. It’s the oxygen that she needs that allows her to keep running and feel that she’s relevant. But the thing about Ives is that the more you get to know her the more their is to dislike. But there will always be those that embrace her brand of politics and they’ll proudly put it on display.
Maybe Brady wants to be part of the discussion of what the “new” Republican party might look like. Maybe not. But the first step in turning things around is admitting that you have a problem particularly in suburban Chicago. In that respect I view Brady’s endorsement as a positive step in moving in a better direction.

Identifying and labeling Tim Schneider as Republican chair is false and misleading. He is chair in name only. Neither legislative leader or GOP caucus pays the slightest attention to whatever bizarre statements emerge from his shop. He couldn’t even hold a county commissioner seat. Silliness.

I completely understand going against Jeanne Ives, she has radical ideologies and is always saying outlandish stuff. To go against your own party and endorse the democrat candidate? I guess Pat was a Republican, disguised as a Rino, disguised as a democrat this whole time! It doesn’t take the Mystery Machine to finally have this solved.

Well this is the same party that had Art Jones running. And nobody had much trouble in calling him out. I’m not saying that the parallels are the same here, but if you truly believe in doing what’s best for the ILGOP in the long term than calling out Jeanne Ives makes a lot of sense.

Pat Brady was and is a hard core Conservative Republican. He was also a professional state party leader, who regularly gave Illinois Democrats a solid ration of grief.
