* Press release…

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,337 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 30 additional confirmed deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 253,690 cases, including 8,214 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from September 2 – September 8 is 3.7%. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 48,029 specimens for a total of 4,526,739. As of last night, 1,580 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 357 patients were in the ICU and 133 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting separately both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.

*All data are provisional and will change. In order to rapidly report COVID-19 information to the public, data are being reported in real-time. Information is constantly being entered into an electronic system and the number of cases and deaths can change as additional information is gathered. Information for deaths previously reported has changed, therefore, today’s numbers have been adjusted. For health questions about COVID-19, call the hotline at 1-800-889-3931 or email dph.sick@illinois.gov.

The Metro East region has a 9.9 percent positivity rate. They are never getting out of this mess until they start taking this seriously. The Will/Kankakee County region has a 7.4 percent rate.

  1. Simply amazing that downstate with a third of the state’s population now dominates the death statistics.

  2. The fact that our overall positivity rate is declining is the glimmer of hope that I need. Do not explain to me why I should take it with a grain of salt. Just give me this today.

  3. Any word on relaxing the enhanced measures in Grundy and Will (Region 7?). They have been 3+ days below 8% positivity and falling.

    It’s KANKAKEE and Will for Region 7

    They need to be below 6/5% for 14 days to have mitigation removed.

  6. Stu, thanks for the correction and info. As in many other “lists” it’s harder to get off of it than it is to get on.
