The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,612 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 8 additional confirmed deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 221,790 cases, including 7,888 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.

*All data are provisional and will change. In order to rapidly report COVID-19 information to the public, data are being reported in real-time. Information is constantly being entered into an electronic system and the number of cases and deaths can change as additional information is gathered. 1. Region 7 has met the threshold to be put on double secret probation, along with Region 4.

Come on out to plainfield for the weekly car show, where nobody wears masks, and nobody enforces anything.

Pay no attention to the string of restaurants that are closing for cleaning downtown every day due to infected employees.

  3. The impact of college students returning? Check out Mc Lean County (ISH and IL Wesleyan.). From positivity cases of 0-25 for months, 2 of the last three days have recorded 95 and 99 cases.

  4. Spent almost the entire Saturday in Alton. Few if any masks amongst the thousand or so people we observed. Young, old, white, black. Didn’t matter. Unofficial observation. Maybe 10% with masks.

  5. McLean County has 99 new positive cases reported today. There were 98 new cases on Sunday. The provisional 7-day rolling positivity rate jumped to 7.3% as of 8/23/2020.

    https://health.mcleancountyil.gov/708/CORONAVIRUS-COVID-19

The graph of the age groups clearly shows the increase is due to those in their 20’s and teens not following CDC guidelines. The numbers have jumped significantly since August 1 when there were 541 cases since March with a provisional 7-day rolling positivity rate of 2.1% as of 7/31/2020.

Concerns have been raised about the large gatherings and parties particularly in off-campus apartment complexes. Illinois State University acknowledges that they have no jurisdiction over events on non-university property. Now that frats and sororities are rushing freshmen, there have been gatherings without masks and lack of social distancing reported. There the university may have some jurisdiction in regards to agreements with the societies.

  6. “If the University of Illinois can’t prevail over COVID-19, no other big university will be able to either”

The game changer at the U. of I. is the rapid saliva testing protocol that they developed. This allows thousands of tests to be administered each day and deliver the results within hours.

  7. If U of I is testing ten thousand people a day are these sent to the state and counted in the test numbers? And if U of I tests same people every 4 days and results are sent to state doesn’t that affect the state testing results in some way?

  8. Logan County is at the warning level…

Logan County is now at 224 total cases with a 2.8-percent positivity rate. July 29, Logan County opened a free testing site at the Logan County Fairgrounds. Since the site opened, cases have nearly tripled.

COUNTIES NOW AT A WARNING INCLUDE: Bureau, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Franklin, Greene, Grundy, Hancock, Henderson, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Moultrie, Randolph, St. Clair, Union, White, Will, and Williamson.”

That’s how it has been all along, with healthcare workers who are repeatedly tested along with EMS, first responders, etc. It boggles the mind that several of my acquaintances are more concerned about individuals who test positive “six times” thus skewing the numbers than the negative test numbers from a pool which is already, at least, 90% of the population.

I think it is safe to assume similar (or identical) to Region 4:

  16. Some Region 4 municipalities are notifying businesses that:
“IDPH and our State of Illinois Administrative Officials, are ordering all bars, restaurants, and gambling facilities in Region 4, which includes St. Clair County, to cease all indoor dining and drinking effective Wednesday 8-26-2020. Outdoor dining and drinking rules do still apply but all such affected businesses must close by 11pm.”

  17. A personal narrative, submitted for your consideration.

Over the weekend a friend of mine from California flew into St. Louis to spend a week with a close relative in a city in the Metro East region. I was invited to join them. In a conversation on Monday I noted the test positivity rate in their county was almost 10%, well over the threshold for concern, and rising. The call must have been on speaker phone because a next-door neighbor of the relative instantly chimed in, “That’s just people in nursing homes. In the general population, it’s just one percent.” This response confused a recent spate of deaths among the elderly, which were connected to congregate living facilities, to the overall rise in cases and the positivity rate. But this jumble does help explain the attitudes of the residents.

And that attitude leads me to think it is probably not a good time to spend a few nights in a hotel in Region Four.

  18. Bolingbrook has been having village sponsored festivals and large gathering events all summer. Only the George Floyd murder protests had good mask compliance. Village hall has tried to conceal the number of local police and firefighters infected and won’t talk about the nursing home in town with some of the highest cases of any in the state.

Sounds like a lot of selfish people in Alton. Do us a favor and stay down there. Chicago’s closed anyway.

Comment by Blue Dog Dem Monday, Aug 24, 20 @ 6:30 pm

  21. Take your pick Blue, but do it from a distance, and tell all of your selfish neighbors to wear a mask. And tell them that, despite the violence, Black Lives Matter. Even in Chicago.
