Question of the day

* Anybody want to do some trash talking ahead of the White Sox vs. Cubs series? Have at it. Cogent, reasoned analysis is also acceptable, I suppose.

  1. I love Eloy Jiménez and wish he was on my side :(

Comment by Cubs fan Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 2:55 pm

  2. I would trash talk against the White Stockings but there’s a mercy rule so I don’t want to be too mean. Go Cubs!

Comment by Chicago Cynic Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 2:56 pm

  3. …will trounce cubs like they trounced Cardinals.

    Ziiing!

Comment by White Sox Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:00 pm

  4. Have the White Sox made sure their players are abiding by the social responsibility requirements and avoiding bars in and around Weigleyville?

Comment by Ok Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:01 pm

  5. Eloy Jiménez and Luis Robert for Albert Almora Jr. Who says no?

Comment by trade proposal Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:04 pm

  6. Thank God Theo didn’t take Oswego Willy’s advice and fire Rossy after losing two meaningless pre season games.

Comment by Lucky Pierre Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:05 pm

  7. Willy, I don’t remember if you are a Sox fan or a Cubs fan, either way home team wins.

Comment by pool boy Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:07 pm

  8. White Sox?

Meh. Just another game on the schedule.

I’m more worried the Cubs are looking past the three wins this weekend will bring.

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:08 pm

  9. ummm….Cardinals took 2/3 in that series…

Comment by Waffle Fries Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:09 pm

  10. ===home team wins===

Let’s hope both clubs wear decent uniforms for the set. Some of these combos by both clubs, the softball uniforms aren’t a great look.

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:10 pm

  11. Thank goodness the White Sox thought they needed James Shields.

Comment by Cool Papa Bell Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:11 pm

  12. One of the WGN talk radio shows this morning was discussing why the Sox and Cubs with their huge stadiums could not have some real fans in attendance, socially distanced at games. Say, 100 fans per section, well spaced, with obviously short lines in concession areas and for frequently cleaned bathrooms where people would be expected to wear masks. People are flying more and starting to go to movie theaters. Nobody’d have to go to an outdoor baseball game if they are uncomfortable, but I know I’d go to a game if this option was available.

  13. sure I have critiques of my Sox. but mostly, nothing but interesting, fun, and often amazing. the jerk factor on the team is low and fun factor is high. as opposed to the media jerks who still don’t get enough about the Sox and blab on about that other team.

Comment by Amalia Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:18 pm

  14. Tim Anderson loookkkkkkssssss gooooddd. The Sox are hot and the Cubs are coming off a long week. Dallas pitching the first game hes been on fire as well

    Comment by Gohawks123 Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:32 pm

  15. === Thank God Theo didn’t take===

The club still has terrible hitting slumps, the starting pitching is carrying the club where game-time decisions are much easier, and a DH game is easier to manage, fewer worries on lineup changes with switches.

    So there’s that.

A fan is short for a fanatic. I don’t apologize for being a fanatic for the sport that is truly my heart.

    :)

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:38 pm

  16. It’s the only time of the year I can’t ignore the Cubs.

    Comment by A Guy Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:40 pm

  17. A song for all the Cub fans to hear as the Sox win. (Sorry, Grandpa!)
Na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na. Hey, hey, hey, Goodbye :)

Comment by revvedup Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:40 pm

  18. I look for a split in the series, with a slight edge to the south siders who invested in several off-season reinforcements to even things up with the Cubs.

Comment by west wing Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:41 pm

  19. Timmy Anderson is the best lead off man in baseball. Sox are going to be tough to beat now that they have their footing.

Comment by Stones Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:45 pm

  20. ===Thank goodness the White Sox thought they needed James Shields.===

That might have been one of the final futile acts of KW. That Fernando Tatis kid is one bundle of excitement and the Sox let him go for that? Heard though that his brother who is in the Sox farm system could be on the same par. We’ll see. Elijah Tatis

  21. TA is going to like the basket, but after Keuchel tonight, the pitching advantage goes back to the Cubs - unless Renteria starts Giolito on three days rest. That’s more of a La Russa move though.

Comment by Proud Sucker Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:50 pm

  22. Go Cubs …

Comment by RNUG Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:53 pm

  23. Thank goodness the cubs thought they needed Jose Quintana…

Comment by The Magnificent Purple Walnut Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:54 pm

  24. Cubs Sox and the Indy 500 this weekend…

    Excellent

Comment by OneMan Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:56 pm

  25. If someone told me the Cubs would start 16-8 I would have happily taken it. If they can take 2 of 3 this weekend, same thing.

Comment by SSL Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:57 pm

  26. On a somewhat related note now that Fox has an opening on their football broadcast teams I think Jason Benetti would be a good choice for someone to add to the booth.

Comment by OneMan Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 3:58 pm

  27. These are two teams going in different directions. The Cubs will be losing/moving several key players after (maybe even before) this season ends. The young and talented Sox are learning how to play consistently.

The Sox should be good for the next several years. This is the last hurrah for the Cubs’ 2016 WS roster. I plan to watch this series through that lens.

Who knows, anybody think the Sox would take Kris Bryant for Luis Robert?

    Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 4:06 pm

  28. Luis Robert, #88. Boom!!!

Comment by Diverdown Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 4:08 pm

  29. No Moncada for some reason tonight. That hurts..
    But:
Sox take 2/3, with Eloy leading the way.

Comment by GregN Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 4:08 pm

  30. I would rate be surprised if the Cubs don’t show - and not because of COVID
