  1. According to the Richland County TB and Public Health Office, a coronavirus-positive Richland County, Illinois, resident in her 20s is being charged with reckless conduct for violating an isolation order. Richland County State’s Attorney Charles B. Vaughn reportedly filed the Class A Misdemeanor case.

    And this is next door to Clay County.

  2. Kim Foxx tweet:
    //I am not surprised that the
    @FOP7Chicago
    , who have encouraged and marched alongside white supremacists, would support my opponent in this race. I remain focused on protecting the health and safety of Cook County residents, not catering to the interests of this organization.//

    Does anybody have a sense as to what the likely outcome of this election is? I’m not even sure what the dynamics are other than “Kim Foxx is probably not competent” but the other guy is one of those ‘blue lives matter’ Trumper creatures.

    Can we vote for a mannequin?

  3. Kim Foxx. Has there ever been a time when the chief law enforcement officer ran against the FOP?

  4. Cubs vs Sox. Love it. Both teams playing good ball.

  5. Go Cubbies. Perfect weekend for ballgames.

    It’s in Texas. You’ll just have to deal with the occasional plant ’splosion.

  8. not one day without angst? from a good night of convention watching to Sox with the Cubs. there goes my bliss, right into nerves for my team.

  9. Gorgeous summer weather but too dry. Illinois is also great in that we don’t have the worst weather and climate problems. We don’t get hurricanes or massive snow/rain like the northeast/southeast and Buffalo. We don’t get horrendous wildfires like California. Certain people can cry about a few extra shillings in taxes, but we have many great things going for us in Illinois.

  10. First Cubs-Cards, now Cubs-Sox… no fans for all.

    Cubs need some more hitting, afraid for a slump at the plate.

  12. Isn’t the guy running against Foxx a former Cook County Judge that was elected as a democrat when he became a judge? If I remember right he said he would not run in the primary against Foxx because he knew there would be no chance of winning but he is running as a republican because he thinks he has a batter chance in the general. Is this the guy?

    Comment by BigLou Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 9:43 am

  13. Grandson, you made my day. It might get a little too hot, or dry, or cold in the winter, but give me that over a hurricane or earthquake or wildfire any time.

  14. I may bike to Fort Lori to see how she’s using the city’s resources of police. My grandparents used to live right near there!

  15. I just read Stewardson-Strasburg schools are closed today, will be going to on-line learning. This is in southern Shelby County. Meanwhile, the COVID cases in Effingham County might be considered “soaring.” 42 cases were reported yesterday, with the county total around 370. Clay also had a few more reported. What goes around, comes around.

  16. Does anyone think for public schools that do in person instruction, will any make it past one week before closing? Two weeks?

    Comment by Anyone Remember Friday, Aug 21, 20 @ 9:52 am

  17. == Two weeks?==

    over/under for downstate school closings:
    15.5 Over -110
    15.5 Under +105

    That’s quite a gamble.

  19. Some days I just don’t understand people. Yesterday I read the story about Lauren Nichols and I really haven’t been able to stop thinking about all the fighting this young lady has been doing.

    Which leads me to today and listening to Darren Baileys morning devotional. He’s upset that Governor Pritzker is pointing his finger and his region as one that’s got rising numbers. He went though a hard to take right vs. left reason for everything. Then said he doesn’t understand why the Governor isn’t pushing Hydroxychloroquine for the whole State. He has several Doctors in his region using it regularly and he’s going to have one on a Facebook Live soon to tell everyone it’s safe to use. At that point my head exploded.
    Everyone has said NO to this drug but Clay County. What is in the water down there?

  20. Veto session isn’t until November, just as flu season gets underway. Speculation is that the virus will pick up speed in the fall too. What are the odds of a condensed off-site veto session?
    Given that supposition and the failed Federal 2nd stimulus negotiations…when are the needed cuts to the state budget going to be addressed. The longer we spend at the original budget level plus Covid needs, the more we need to cut later in the fiscal year.

  21. == What are the odds of a condensed off-site veto session?==

    I’d wager better odds that there isn’t a veto session at all.

  22. =What are the odds of a condensed off-site veto session?=

    Somewhere in the neighborhood of 100%…if it happens.

  23. Not a top priority but it would be great if both parties could revise the rules on appointing successors to elected officials who resign at convenient times. This happens far too often, and in the case of Link, the timing seems quite cynical.

    The people need to have a vote more often rather than less often. Perhaps make a distinction between someone who dies or is incapacitated while in office and any sort of voluntary resignation?

  24. Had meet-the-teacher Zooms today for my kids who will be distance learning. My 4th grader was a little teary afterwards, because it’s new and different and scary and overwhelming.

    I’ve been crying a little bit from the stress of trying to do a good job facilitating their distance learning, but usually after they’re in bed for the night. I’m scared and overwhelmed too.

    Also Ikea was supposed to deliver their new desks ages ago and hasn’t yet but that feels like the least of my problems.

  25. Suburban Mom, you will get through this, and probably have some new skills by the time it is all over. Kids are resilient and they’ll adapt well. Good luck to you and your family.

  26. What are the odds that President Trump wants Rod Blagojevich to speak at the Republican Convention next week?
