We are still working this evening on 5 new cases of COVID-19. All are from different households - none of them have had known exposure - all are recovering at home in isolation. Demographics for these individuals are as follows:
1 male in his 20’s
1 male in his 30’s
1 female in her 50’s
1 female in her 60’s
1 female in her 80’sThe IDPH Drive-Through Mobile Covid Testing Unit will be at Beyond the Bell (former Flora Bank and Trust) on Monday, August 17 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary. No payment is necessary. Bring your insurance card.

It’s not just Clay. Case numbers are spiking all over rural Illinois. It took awhile to get here, but it did make it as predicted by the healthcare experts.

Kudos to IDPH for for getting a mobile testing unit promptly to a needed location. Admittedly anecdotal, the two county health departments with which I have had contact are doing absolutely amazing work.

Sad situation. Looking at Clay County Health Department’s Facebook page, they are attempting to educate the public and provide them with the correct information for preventing COVID.
However, they are fighting a losing battle with Bailey, DeVore, and their judge buddy waging a grandiose war in their own backyard.

Clay Co has had sufficient access to testing from the pretty early in the pandemic. Including drive thru services at Clay Co Hospital’s clinic. Access to testing wouldn’t seem to be the slightest issue as to the sudden uptick in Bailey’s district.

Test results will be phoned back to you within 4 to 7 days which is way too slow to help prevent the spread. It would be great to get faster testing results, if only the federal level could help coordinate that…

I do not understand why they collect more samples than can be promptly tested. One result back in 2 days is more valuable than 3 tests back in a week.

While I am not surprised by the uptick - I think many of us understood form the get go that rural southern IL would likely be later to have the issues urban areas in IL experienced.
It is heartening to see that despite the current politically charged climate in Clay, the heakth department is doing it’s job and looking out for the people of Clay county.

Rich, I know this is one instance, but I went for a test on August 4th at the drive through facility in Springfield. On August 11th I still hadn’t heard anything, so I called SIU. The person who answered the phone took my information and said my request would be forwarded. I finally got my test results on August 12th.

Was it positive or negative? I say that because someone I know well just had a test before a medical procedure and was told she’d only get a call if she was positive.

I got a test at the facility across from cozy dog. test was on a Friday and they called with the neg results on Sunday morning

I used one of the mobile testing sites in the county next door to mine. We were told at the test site we would receive results in 48 hours. It was one of the first “pop up” mobile sites in our area.
Being generous I waited 4 days. When I called; the tests were backlogged, but would go to my county of residence, so additional inquires should be made to them. I was also told that I would be notified of results either way.
Long story short 13 days after my testing, and after several unpleasant phone calls to my local HD I was finally told they were negative.
I was also told by my county’s HD - we don’t notify anyone who is negative, if you don’t hear from us three days after your test consider it negative. (seems a bad practice to me), and again by my local HD was told - well your quarantine period would be close to up by now anyway so what difference does it really make? To say I was disappointed in my local HD is an understatement.

I got a test on August 8. They said I would hear from them in 3 to 5 days. Got a call, negative, about 1:00 pm today. One person, who could have some knowledge of the situation, told me they prioritized calls on positive tests.

All these positives and we see zero hospitalizations and zero deaths here. I realize people were dying from it before and I am very sorry for all those that lost their lives. A sad situation no doubt. However something has undoubtedly changed with the virus and no one seems to acknowledge it. There’s no way it’s as strong as it was in the beginning or we’d have many more deaths and hospitalizations than we do now.

I tested at Illinois State Fairgrounds. Results in 47 hours (negative).

One thousand people are dying today from Covid-19 in the U.S. Only 5 days since July 27 have been below that number. The numbers have gone up not down and it is the 3rd leading cause of death. This virus is as strong as it ever was. Be vigilant and stay safe.
