The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 2,264 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 25 additional confirmed death.- Bureau County: 1 female 80s
- Cook County: 1 female 30s, 2 males 50s, 2 males 60s, 1 female 80s, 1 male 80s, 1 male 90s
- DeKalb County: 1 female 60s
- DuPage County: 1 male 50s, 1 female 90
- Iroquois County: 1 female 50s
- Madison County: 2 females 60s, 1 male 70s, 1 female 80s, 1 female 90s, 1 male 90s
- Morgan County: 2 females 80s, 1 male 80s
- Sangamon County: 1 female 80s, 1 male 90s
- Will County: 1 female 90sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 202,691 cases, including 7,721 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 49,541 specimens for a total of 3,285,348. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from August 8 – August 14 is 4.1%. As of last night, 1,612 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 345 patients were in the ICU and 126 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
Region 4 (Metro East) of the 11 COVID-19 Regions is seeing increases in test positivity rates and could surpass the resurgence metrics in the coming days. If the region experiences three consecutive days of 8% test positivity (7-day rolling average), the State will implement mitigation measures. A list of mitigation options can be found on the coronavirus.illinois.gov website.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.

Am I the only one alarmed by this recent trend? I know the Governor is trying, but I don’t see how the state doing everything possible to stop this recent uptick. Fall is quickly approaching and I worry how much worse it will get in the coming months if it’s already this bad. I know there are more tests, but New York also does a lot of tests and does not see this level of an outbreak.

It is somewhat fascinating how the positivity rate stays pretty tight regardless (around 4 %) of the number of tests

Or is it best to give it two more days for Region 4 to basically put itself squarely and firmly into increased mitgation efforts?

So, pretty much cannot hide from a virus. This jibes with the original “Spread the Curve” campaign. Perhaps we are in the upper part of the extended curve. DuPage seems to have this well in hand despite the maskless marchers in June.

What is the delay rolling the saliva test used at the University of Illinois for over a month Governor?

Here’s something interesting…someone at my wife’s work was exposed so they wanted every one to get tested. So my wife, kids and I went down to JJK Center (we live about 20 minutes away and heard they get results back fast) to all get tested on a Friday. We got the phone call with negative results that Sunday. My wife had to get the letter stating a negative result and it took 7 DAYS to get the letter. Yes..you read that right! The test results cam back in 2 days but the letter took 7 DAYS! Something needs to be sped up somewhere in that chain.

Has Metro East finally crossed 8% positivity? They seemed to have hovered at somewhere around 7.3 - 7.7 for a long time.

With Region 4 (Metro East) seeing the increasing positivity rates like they are and no signs of it going down. I just read where Collinsville School District starts in class school on August 20th. What in the world are they thinking down there?
I watched a short video from the Mayors of Godfrey and E. Alton today about wearing masks that was sponsored by all the Riverbend Mayors. I’ve seen nothing from any other Mayor or City Officials from Madison or St. Clair County. I grew up in Collinsville and I’m shocked by the silence from the leadership.

Yes, he is trying and heading into stiff resistance from GOP and some Dem politicians who can’t resist the siren call of those who want to return to “normality” without any action on their part. What’s left is a harder lockdown in the face of a lack of leadership and effort by Trump and our GOP controlled neighboring states. Remember that WI efforts were thwarted by a GOP legislature.
I intend to help JB and others respond to the pandemic by voting against Trump and other GOP pols in November. We need a country that is rowing together. National leadership will get us a lot closer to achieving that goal.

Arock I too hope the at home test is out soon. That said I don’t think it will happen until there is a change in Federal administration. Currently the desire is to slow down testing (a national decline of 12%). Remember if you don’t test you don’t have any cases (snark intended). The FDA is handling a lot of this based on their marching orders from on top.

I biked the North Branch Trail on Wednesday. While I was still in the city, mask compliance on the trail was not great, but decent, probably 50%. As I pushed into the suburbs it plummeted, maybe 1 out of 10 folks were masked, at best.
Granted this was outside on a 6-10 foot wide path, but still. Pretty disheartening. And y’know, that area isn’t exactly full of Trumpers. I have no faith it will get better before it gets worse, and right now it feels like it will get much, much, much worse in the next couple of months.

My state agency is about to have what feels like a walkout.
Basically our director is a southern downstate guy who basically believes the whole thing is a overblown hoax. He wants our butts in seats because he can’t grasp how working from home works because our state owned chairs are in the office and how can official state business be conducted in anything other than a state owned chair.
Either way from what we’re hearing from govenors office is not pleased with directors forcing employees who dont need to be in the office in the office so hopefully JB calls him out.

That is the quickest way to get a handle on Covid-19 which is the only way to get the economy and schools back open.

Maybe the U of I could do things faster if we had not cut state funding by 50% in the last 10 years. Glad to see they are stepping up regardless.
