The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,834 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 24 additional confirmed death.
- Adams County: 1 female 100+
- Cook County: 1 female 50s, 1 female 60s, 1 male 60s, 1 female 70s, 1 male 70s, 2 females 80s, 2 males 80s
- DuPage County: 1 female 90s
- Lake County: 1 female 90s
- LaSalle County: 1 female 80s, 2 female 90s
- Madison County: 1 female 60s
- Peoria County: 1 female 40s
- Shelby County: 1 female 80s
- Tazewell County: 1 male 80s
- Washington County: 1 male 80s
- Will County: 1 male 80s
- Winnebago County: 1 female 70s, 1 male 70s, 1 male 80sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 200,427 cases, including 7,696 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 46,006 specimens for a total of 3,235,807. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from August 6 – August 12 is 4.0%. As of last night, 1,628 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 383 patients were in the ICU and 127 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.
*All data are provisional and will change. In order to rapidly report COVID-19 information to the public, data are being reported in real-time. Information is constantly being entered into an electronic system and the number of cases and deaths can change as additional information is gathered. I think it’s time to consider that this winter will be one of the hardest for mankind in modern history.
If you havent been improving your health over the last few months you made a huge mistake but start now. Being lean and having health above qverage very easily will be the difference between life and death.

There is a new website with some chilling data about COVID and long term care: https://t.co/t0NA54638T?amp=1 . States that less than 1% of people in the US live in long term care, but account for at least 43% of all deaths.

COVID hospitalizations in Illinois are now at their highest level since July 1. And COVID ICU patients are at their highest level since June 25. The surge in cases over the last few weeks is now leading to hospitalizations starting to increase several weeks later. And then we will see deaths start to increase again in a couple weeks. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. We don’t learn.

@Groundhog - I say this as a person who remains concerned about COVID and is willing to mask and such.
But given the fragile nature of individuals in a LTC in a normal year what is the percentage of deaths they would otherwise contribute?

I found this, for anyone who wants to track the risk of shutdown. Yes, I’m aware you can do that on the IDPH website, but I found out this one loads better on my phone.
Y’all may have different luck, but now you also have a contingency option.

According to the IDPH website, 6637 pf the 7696 deaths, or 86%, are from those who are 60 and older. Of these total deaths, 53% are in long term care facilities.

COVID does not magically just appear in nursing homes, prisons, mental health facilities, etc. It is brought in by people and spreads due to the nature of the facilities. You stop nursing home deaths by stopping community spread.
