U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, said Wednesday that he’s not sure that Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, can do his job leading the House and the Democratic Party of Illinois, given an ongoing federal investigation. […]
Asked if the investigation hurts the party, Durbin said, “Of course, the cloud of suspicion is going to be raised, as you just did.”
“You start with the presumption of innocence,” Durbin added. “Then comes other questions. Can you do your job? What impact does your legal problem have on other people, innocent people in the process? That’s why I think, as this progresses, if it progresses before the election, other questions will be raised.”
Asked if Madigan can now do the jobs of speaker and party leader, Durbin said, “I don’t know the answer about that at this moment.”

It’s an answer…
The “can you do the job” covers many sins.
Which of all the jobs, and the onus is on both Madigan and others to agree the job(s) isn’t/aren’t getting done.
It’s an answer of assessment and process not really an answer to a solution… so there’s that I guess.

“I don’t know” is as valid an answer as any other answer. Too many people are dishonest and pretend they are so smart when they should just admit they don’t know. Some times you just don’t know.

Too bad the convention is virtual, it would be very awkward for every elected Democrat to line up behind Mike Madigan as he announces the Illinois votes for Joe Biden

Durbin skills as a politician were honed by representing Spfld in his earlier offices. (He knows how to navigate politics). Wait & see is probably a better response to the Madigan question.
