  1. Depending on the length of this season, the Sox may not lose another game.

    Comment by A Guy Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:16 am

  2. Robert is going to be a star. Yoan and Eloy look great at the plate, but their defense is questionable. Abreu is Abreu. I hope Rodon and Lopez are okay (nothing longterm). Dallas and Gio are a great 1 & 2. Also, that bullpen is solid. Super excited for this season. I hope everyone stays healthy and sticks to the preventative suggestions by MLB.

  3. Last night was a very satisfying Sox win - even with breaks going against them, they still found a way to win the game.

Comment by ChicagoVinny Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:18 am

  4. If Robert keeps getting on base like he is, Tim Anderson is going to have to find somewhere else to hit in the lineup. Sad to see Rodon go down again. But I am looking forward to seeing Dunning and Flores. And Detweiller needs to stay in the bullpen. Sans the doubleheader, this has been a really fun season so far.

  5. Sadly in a year where both Chicago teams show the potential for making the playoffs, I fear that the season will end abruptly.

Comment by Pundent Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:19 am

  6. “…may not lose another game” ?
They’ve already lost twice as many as the Northsiders. Not exactly channeling Bill Veeck there.

  7. Sanctions against the Cardinals players and staff should be … ?

Comment by Anyone Remember Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:23 am

  8. The Field of Dreams game got canceled.

Maybe for the fans, Shoeless Joe should invite Ty Cobb and a bunch of other players. Last time they didn’t invite Cobb because they could stand the …. when he was alive so they told him to…

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:24 am

  9. === Sanctions against the Cardinals players and staff should be … ?===

    Nothing.

The Astros got to keep their World Series, no honest sanctions or a stripping of the title.

This season might not make it to August 16th.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:26 am

  10. ===and a bunch of other players.===

They already had to play through the 1918 Pandemic. Is it fair to ask them to play through another?

Comment by Candy Dogood Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:30 am

  11. ==They’ve already lost twice as many as the Northsiders.==

Our opponents are actually fit to play. /s
Sox won 5 in a row now. Quit peeing in the punchbowl.

    Comment by A Guy Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:34 am

  12. === Sanctions against the Cardinals players and staff should be … ?===

Make them stay in St. Louis. That’s punishment enough.

Comment by Dysfunction Junction Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:34 am

  13. ===Sanctions against the Cardinals players===

Two stroke penalty for golfing at Whistling Straits on their off day.

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:36 am

  14. I think the NHL is showing that Baseball probably should have done the Arizona bubble plan. This is going to be set up as one of the rare years that we finally have 2 good teams… and will get cancelled.

Comment by Fighter of Foo Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:37 am

  15. === They already had to play through the 1918 Pandemic. Is it fair to ask them to play through another?===

These are desperate times, plus I think ghosts, as far as ghosts go, have herd immunity.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:37 am

  16. Sox gonna need a 4th starter (at min) - my vote is for Dunning - if Lopez comes back Ricky better be ready to yank him at the drop of a hat (or bat).

Comment by lake county democrat Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:44 am

  17. Aaron Judge homered five games in a row, first since ARod in 2007 and the 10th Yankee overall. The Bambino in 1921 and Iron Horse in 1931 were the first two Yankees to do it, Donnie Baseball in 1987 has one of the all-time record with home runs in eight consecutive games.

Comment by NYY Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:49 am

  18. First Lopez, now Rodon with shoulder issues. Always maintained Don Cooper is the worst pitching coach in the majors.

Comment by bogey golfer Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:51 am

  19. Still blowing my mind that Joe Kelly got suspended for throwing at the Astros, but no Astros players were suspended for the worst cheating scandal in a generation

Comment by Fresh ideas Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 9:59 am

  20. Thank you, White Sox, for defeating the Brewers.

I do not understand why he is still on the staff.

  24. Don Cooper has pictures. Of people. It is the only way he can still be there.

Comment by Fighter of Foo Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 10:14 am

  25. —–I do not understand why he is still on the staff—–

The only reason i can think of is either it’s Ken Williams or Reinsdorf’s order. I know it seems far fetched to think Jerry Reinsdorf would get involved in on field matters but as we have seen countless times on the White Sox and Bulls, Reinsdorf can be loyal to a fault.

Comment by Big Jer Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 10:15 am

  26. Bartolo Colon is ready and willing and has a phone; call him Rick.

Comment by Jose Abreu's Next Homer Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 10:15 am

  27. How will calling Bartolo ‘Rick’ help their cause? /s

    Comment by Cubs in '16 Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 10:21 am

  28. Was some fun baseball last night, that and just hearing a good local call of a game is very helpful right now.

Then again I would be in favor of nationalizing Vin Scully and have him calling one game each night for a national audience during our current crisis.

Comment by OneMan Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 10:21 am

  29. worried about the arms of the Sox. but wow, did the captain…Abreu is really that…come up big last night. and then YoYo. and Robert is positively amazing in all aspects of his game. loved the Jason/Stoney discussion a couple games back where they described how Robert adjusts not just from bat to bat but from pitch to pitch.

Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 10:26 am

  30. ===Don Cooper===

I do not understand why he is still on the staff.==

Lol, Reinsdorf hasn’t even fired Jim Boylen yet - a man who is widely known to be the worst head coach in the entire NBA. Cooper will be the Sox pitching coach until he dies.

    Comment by Lester Holt’s Mustache Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 11:20 am

  31. Early returns make it clear that irrespective of covid issues, all teams and players are looking at more injuries than seem normal for the start of a season. I would be concerned if I were a pitcher in particular. The disruption in preparation and routine this year seems to be taking a toll. Would not be surprised to see a spate of opt outs going forward due to this as well as covid.

Comment by Captain Obvious Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 11:21 am

  32. Saw that the Cubs-cards series is still on pending another series of clean tests by the Cards.
I still don’t think I’d touch them. Or breath their air.

Comment by Bruce (no not him) Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 11:27 am

  33. Just heard that the Field of Dreams MLB game was cancelled in Iowa. Sorry to hear, but hope it can be scheduled for 2021.

Comment by Top of the State Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 11:55 am

  34. Both Chicago teams playing well, and the Cardinals not playing at all and under 500. It’s a dream season… if it weren’t a nightmare.

Comment by Vote Quimby Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 12:45 pm

  35. Cubs are primed and playing good play; looks like they are a contender.

I just know the season is going to get cut off …

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Aug 4, 20 @ 1:34 pm

  36. They called up Lail instead of Dunning or Flores? Okay then. I hope this is for emergency only, or they give him one start and send him back to Schaumburg.
